I formatted a drive but haven't saved one of the important files :( I know there is software to try and recover it but are there any free good ones?

thank you for your time!

free??

I dont believe there are any free ones that would be efficiant enough to do what u want it to do..data recovery is expensive..i had to send out 2 MAC formatted drives for recovery..cost 3k...

Recuva, it's free, and I'm sure will do the trick. If you done a quick format, it should easily be recoverable. Also, quick google search and there's 9 other ones that apparently are free recommended in the link. I have use PC Inspector File Recovery and works also.

http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?Language=1 you can give that a try but it's luck of the draw, I tried it after an accidental format and found most of the stuff I wanted but I ended up just buying diskinternals partition recovery after i installed the trial software that lets you see but not recover, after a 2 hour scan it gave me a 100% probability of a full recovery. As long as you didn't screw around with the drive or write anything to it your chances are good but as soon as you start dealing with overwritten files then that's way beyond what can be recovered on the software level

yes, NO freeware.

May be you can use AppleXsoft Data Recovery to recover formatted hard disk and get back lost files from your hard drive. it can recover data from formatted hard disk in FAT and NTFS format. tutorial: http://www.applexsoft.com/howto/recover-formatted-hard-disk.html

Give this one a try: http://www.handyrecovery.com/ it may be able to find lost file. If not, then you owe nothing. If it does find the missing files and shows promising chance of recovery, it may be worth paying them for full version to use the recovery option.

Failing that, how important is that file? Important enough to fork over several hundred dollars to a recovery service?

free data recovery software

There is a free data recovery software, it can recover files even if you deleted the files from Recycle Bin, formatted the partition even if you have reinstalled Windows, the partition is lost or deleted, the file system of partition became RAW, partition cannot be accessed, hard drive is crashed, hard drive is repartitioned, etc. I have tried it and it works well, but it ends at Feb 2010, I would like it is free forever, download it quickly from http://majorgeeks.com/EASEUS_Data_Recovery_Wizard_d6336.html
