Anyone know of a trustworthy site that does usb port replacement for a blackberry pearl? One of the mini usb pins is bent. The port needs to be desoldered and a new one needs to be soldered in. Brick and mortar repair shops in the NorCal area would also work.

BTW...I'm considering these 2 online services but have know idea how trustworthy they are:

http://www.pdasmart.com/blackberry-8100-Repair-Parts.htm - $65 parts+service

http://www.cellphone-repair-shop.com/BlackberryChargePortRepair.htm - $76.95 parts+service

If anyone has used one of these type services, please post which one and what you thought of their service.

PDASmart.com has rather poor reviews from ResellerRatings.com. Cellphone-repair-shop.com has no reviews.

BB Repair Shop advertises $79.99 to fix the USB port, and they have a 10 on ResellerRatings, but it is from a single review from January.

How much would your carrier charge for repair? They must have some service available...

They way my carrier handles it is that I would have to contact them and tell them that I need my phone replaced for warranty repairs. They would send me a refurb and I would send them back my busted phone. They would inspect the phone and as long as the problems are covered under warranty, there is no charge. I have already done some digging and found out that bent pins in the mini usb port are not considered a manufacturer defect. So, once that determination is made, $100 would be charged to my account for the refurb. I think that is bull since the pins would not have bent if they had used a quality mini usb port on the phone, but that is not the case.

Here's a pick:

I'd suggest a wanted ad in classifieds here... there ought to be someone here with the skills to replace a mini-USB port for you. Probably cheaper, and possibly easier to verify trustworthiness, too :)

I hadn't thought of that. That's a good idea. I'm sure one of these guys that does precision soldering for volts mods and such would be willing and able to desolder and resolder a mini usb port.
