Having trouble installing an old dvd/cd drive

I harvested my current 22x dvd/cd drive for my new pc, and decided to put an old 8x one in one of my rigs. I Windows Vista is reading the LiteOn DVD/CD drive as something wierd ”RELSNOH LEV0TMBSTYZ SCSI CdRom Device.” I downloaded the latest driver from LiteOn`s website but it won`t let me install it because it`s not recognizing the drive as a LiteOn SOHW-812S drive and it says the best driver is already installed. This is causing me trouble because whatever it thinks it is now, is not a DVD writing drive. So I lost functionality.

Here is a picture of the error when I try to run the driver:

This is the only dvd or cd drive I have installed right now on that rig. I did a google for "relsnoh" and the only hit is my question on yahoo looking for help.

will it let you uninstall the driver ? disconnect the device , then reinstall with new driver ?

Nope. I uninstall, restart -> the driver is back. Uninstall, unplug, and it shows it re-installed even with the thing unpluged. I restart a few times, uninstall, re-plug, and do "search for new hardware" and it reinstalls the driver. It's driving me nuts.
