Out of the loop

So, I've been out of the loop for a while (school, life, work, etc) and am finally building a new machine, but I'm stuck on storage.

I have my entire photography portfolio backup up on 2 separate drives right now. I would like to set up raid 1 in the desktop, and then have an external backup drive.

So heres my question, What is the best value (speed vs $$$) 500gb Hdd, keeping in mind that if I lose data, Im gonna be one sad lad.

IDE or sata? I like the seagate 7200.11 or even the 7200.9

whoops, guess I assumed that everyone else assumed I was using sata

but yea, its a new machine, so its sata. I also forgot to mention, Im in Canada,so id prefer something that doesnt have to cross a border. whoooops

Funny, as all the Samsung hard drives I've had are excellent. I can not say the same about WD (loud riot) and Seagate (freeze prone) hard drives I've owned.
