I've wiped my linux partitions and installed a fresh copy of debian testing. I also reset my router to defaults and upgraded to dd-wrt v24 sp1 mega.

So it appears it is at least able to connect to the assignment server but can't get a request for work.. I guess in a way it's progress...

I just can't help but wonder if the config was strictly default, and the memory was something smaller, like 1024, if that would solve this problem, or not.

Ubuntu is very close to Debian, even uses the Debian kernel, IIRC. I'm running 5 instances of Ubuntu SMP, 24/7, with default settings, and 780Mb of RAM per instance, and have had just one small problem (one thread didn't close as it should have, when the WU was done), in the last month.

I usually run to thoughts like that though, so it's certainly not some fix all.

Good luck, Shelnutt.

To me it looks like the router is blocking the address of the work server or protocol is wrong to communicate with it. A quick check to see if you can ping the work server would eliminate blocked IP as the cause. I see nothing wrong with the config setup. On my hardware firewall at the office, I had to manually enter the IPs of all the servers @ FAH to allow, with UDP protocol on port 8080 for FAH to work. .162 is open on 80 and 8080 so it's not simply a port issue. Perhaps a protocol issue, as in no UDP?

Great that you're up and running, Shelnutt.

What is ipv6?

What is ipv6?

Internet Protocol version 6

In short it's an update on version 4 which is what is used most commonly throughout the internet. TCP/IP stuff, v6 is just the new wave. It's not popular yet but it's growing. The main advantage is that it allows for more ip addresses as it adds new stuff and all. Some websites support ipv6 connections now, like google. Sometimes when a site goes down you can still access it via ipv6 servers. Overall though it's not really important, so disabling it doesn't effect me besides allowing me to fold!

You were certainly in the ballpark with identifying the problem, ChasR. Nothing new there.
