Is nVidia safe to buy?

I keep hearing about there being some kind of possible problem with
nVidias chips failing. Are video cards based on the chips safe to buy?
I would hate to recommend one to someone, and then it ceases to
operate 6 months later.

Is all of this just FUD?
 
that was in laptop video chipsets and only in the 7 series, it is an old issue and dead and does not apply to desktop systems

There have been no such problems in the desktop market. I have used Nvidia GPU's since the GeForce 2 era.. and never had a card fail.

Even my Alienware Aurora m9700, with dual 7900GS's had zero problems.
 
nice, good to know Nvidia is as good as they say they are, i have never had problems either, ive had Nvidia since the Geforce 6 series with no problems at all
 
my 5500 never failed
my 6600 never failed
my 7950 never failed
and my current 8800 is still running

so yeah id say its pretty safe :)
