Stepup to 295, or go with 280 SLI?

The steup on my 280GTX is due to expire right around the time the 295 will be released. I am wondering if I should wait to step up or purchase antoher 280 for SLI? I received a 24 inch monitor for Xmas, and my framerates have taken a hit at 1980 by 1080.

1920x1080 or 1920x1200?

Regardless, I would say another 280 will do you better in the long run. IIRC, the 295 is just GTX260 216's smashed together.

1920 by 1080. This is the monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236049 which I am very pleased with. Thanks for the input, I think I am leaning towards the 280 sli as well! EDIT I just dropped the hammer on the 280

Isn't the 285 going to be 2x260's and the 295 2x280's?

No. The GTX285 is a single GPU card, where the GTX295 is 2x GTX260s (don't think GTX260 216s) crammed together.

Actually, the 295 is 2x280 55nm's crammed on one card, they both are carrying the 260s bandwidth, but there both 280's

what dapman said. The 295 is essentally two GTX 260 core 240s

with GTX260 clock speeds and memory interface/bandwidth

will they be like the typical GX2 cards, more or less just a place holder with a very short life span and bad driver support...

yes expected life span for the 295 i read was 3 months tops. I personally am going to buy 2 core 216 260's.
