if i have two drives in raid 1, if one drive goes bad can i pop the other mirrored drive out and read the data in another machine?

Also, if you just replace the faulty drive with the same model the RAID should restore the backup RAID1 on the new drive. This is the point of RAID1 in the first place to protect against drive failure data loss.
