I kinda know what I'm gonna use for my next htpc-I think I'm gonna go micro this time. Can't decide on a mobo though. Here's a couple I've been looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128354 -Newegg has this 1 open box for 64.99 Intel

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128360 -AMD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131324 - AMD --may go with this 1..

I'm about to run to Fry's to see what kinda cpu/ mobo combos they have and probably ditch the mobo(usually an ECS). That will also decide if I go with Intel or AMD.. Got a $75.00 gift card so that will help..

I noticed that your preference is leaning towards the ASUS 780G board. If you decide to go 780G, I highly suggest getting the Gigabyte board instead. The 780G is limited to 2.0 sound over HDMI, but the Gigabyte has a sound chip that will transcode 7.1 audio to 5.1 DTS and send it via HDMI.

I don't have experience with the nVidia chipsets, but I think the 8000 and 9000 series do 7.1 LCPM, if you're willing to go that route.

the gigabyte was my first choice-only reason I changed 'cause Newegg was offering free shipping-so I mught just switch back to that- but I also have an Omega claro I may put in it. Will probably be upgrading the video when I get more $$ anyway..

If you're building from scratch, I don't see a point in going with discrete graphics, unless you plan on gaming. Just get an IGP with the features that you need.

Same with the sound card, unless you need all those outputs.

If I go with this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131324 I was reading 1 of the reviews and it says I need a Phenom class cpu to take advantage of the onboard HD video. If I get this board should I go with this proc instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300
since its based on the Phenom(but its 95w) or stick with the 5050e at 45w??

Do you need to deinterlace HD video with the 780G? If so, you will need a CPU with HyperTransport 3.0 support. That CPU you linked should work fine.
