9-year anniversary comeback

After years of folding@home for a couple of teams I decided to split my idle processing time a bit between several fine projects, which means that I am now also running SETI@home and ClimatePrediction.net on an X2 5000+.

I'm not exactly new to SETI as a few of you may remember..

From my old profile:
SETI@home member since 5 Dec 1999
SETI@home classic CPU time 7273 hours

I just had my 9-year anniversary with SETI@home, so I thought now might be a good time to return.

EDIT: Oh, and of course I'm still crunching for the O/C.com teams!

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome back - nice to be crunching again. I used to be second in command on this team, before I went ahead and founded team 32 (Folding@home).

Is Kris still around? (Our fearless leader back then) And what about my old friend SpeeDj?

I'm new to BOINC, so if there are some things besides the obvious GUI setup items, I'd appreciate some pointers in the right direction

I haven't seen SpeeDj in the forum for awhile, and Kris, he haven't been around for a even longer time (way before the SETI Classic ended!!).

I'm not too far behind you Allan....

Thanks for the update on Kris and Jeremy.

I see that my many years of folding have set me back in the SETI classic competition :-) I remember crunching with a Celly@366 and later a PIII 700@933, cooled by the Glaciator cooler that we got from Joe and the crew.

Oh, happy days

Check my sig for eaglescouter's optimization thread. The AK_v8 app is a must for improved crunching! My K8's get from 1300-1450 RAC (an average daily credit rating) depending on the CPU speed.

Also, set your disk cache to 10 days. SETI is often off-line (old servers!) and that 10 day cache assures continued crunching through an outage.

Also, if you happen to have an nVidia 8xxx or newer there is the new CUDA SETI app. Since I don't have a card like that I'm not very up-to-date on it but there are a couple of recent threads on the subject you can browse through ...

Welcome back Allan!

Haven't seen Kris or Spee for quite some time although there are still a surprisingly good chuck of what I would consider "old-timers" still lurking around - but they (err.. we?) don't post nearly as much as we used to.

I still get on and read just about every day though. Old habits die hard I guess? This was the first site that I stumbled upon that made me feel at home and just had a wealth of great people and even better information. That probably doesn't hurt either!

I am not sure about Kris, but I do believe there was a falling out with Speedj...probably a couple months after chawkens left. Not to many of the orignal members still left. Good to see you back though. Now we just need Lonely_Raven and Greg_M. If the Greg_M decide to bring the Two Norsemen back it just might be on again!
