Soundproofing case

Hi, new to this site and building my first machine. I am wondering if anyone has fiddled with soundproofing their case. I have a good number of fans which generate quite a bit of noise. I am thinking about cutting out cardboard or something similar to coat the walls of the case. Naturally leaving space around the fans so they may do their work. Anyone try this?
