Hey ppl what`s up?

I can get a 9800 GTX+ for a very good price, about 60% of the its price. But I`m newbie on hardware again, its like 3 years that I out of market so, I have no clue about this vga, is this good or what?

PS. dont mind my sig, I`m buying a hole new rig.

That sounds like a good deal to me, and even for the retail price the card dishes out a lot of frames.

Mine was bad, so I can't really comment, but it ran REALLY hot, controlling temperatures was a real chore with this card. Even at 80% to 90% fan speed I couldn't keep it below 80 degrees centigrade. nVidia's on a spree of bad 55nm cards lately. All their 55nm designs run hot and take more power.

That being said, it's a power ful card, and for 80$ or so, I'd say you're getting a deal, but after my experience, I'd just avoid it if possible, but your results will most likely vary.

Then buy a Core 216 if you can, as it's a much better card, runs cooler, faster, and can match even the top end cards with good overclocking. The 9800GTX+ simply can't do this, also... the GTX200 series adds a few more Anti Aliasing levels that run fast and deliver a lot of shape rounding.

I had a 9800GTX+, I'm still waiting on the refund as I overnighted a GTX260 55nm to replace it, which is shaping up to be a much better value, but given your oppurtunity, I'd take it... but keep in mind it will be the limiting factor in a "whole new rig" if you built it right (unless you're AA heavy like me).

man that rig in ur sig is old school. tcc ram, and a thunderbird cpu if i remember correctly. and a 40gb hd, that's the icing on the cake!

with that said, what video card you should buy is mostly dependent on what resolution you'll be gaming at. If you're sticking to 1280x1024, a 9800GTX at 40% off is a damn good bargain. If you are going to be gaming at 1920x1200 or higher, you're going to need at least a 260 gtx /4870 to get decent performance.

finally, keep in mind that if you do get a high end card, it will be best to overclock your cpu to at least 3.6ghz to minimize the cpu bottleneck in your games. You won't get much performance with a high end vid card if your cpu is runnin at 2.4

Aznkc730 Thanks for the reply, well I would play in low resolution as I still have a 17" CRT. So I would be lucky to get a game running at 1280x1024.
And thanks I intend to get a quad core, maybe a little oc but I'll not buy any Heatsink or expensive fans, so I can overclock but only on stock cooler.
I'm trying to build a decent rig but is kindly hard.

Man down here in brazil high end products are damm expensive.
Most of people here only get PC CHIPS very low end mobo with everything on board and celeron cpus. LOL

i have the 9800 gtx+ evga and its a pretty good card. Temperatures arent that big a problem for me. To the guy that said he hits 80C, i feel sorry for because mines runs at about 45C at 50% fan speed and ambient temps of about 70F.

I did have problems at first with my games freezing up on me. but then i just reinstalled the drivers and now i dont have that problem nemore. One thing aboaut the 9800 tho is that its F'ing HUGE! man i wish the ymade it smaller but i guess thats the sacrafice u make for it being a 45nm =/

lemme kno how it goes

i also have the 9800gtx+ and haven't had any temperature problems. it probably all depends on the cooler and case setup though. my 900 case has an internal temp of only a few degrees higher than ambient and the ASUS version of the card has a pretty elaborate heatpipe cooler on it.

also, since i didnt' see this mentioned anywhere else, what is considered a good price on this card for you? I'm sure this isn't the case with you, but what some people think is a good price really isn't. since you're in brazil you'll probably have to provide a comparison to a gtx 260 216 or something. I consider the $140 i paid for the 9800 gtx+ to have been a good deal and the best gtx 260 216 i could find was $210

The core 216 is actually bigger than the 9800GTX+, and uses more power. It runs cooler in my setup. THe cooler is the same, however... or at least very similar style of cooler. Exhausted out the back, intake pressured through several rows of fins. About the same setup, just a better quality card. I'd get a 9800GTX+ for that price for the performance but I know I had a tremendous amount of issues with mine. And 80C in games, in crysis 95+ it would crash.

My 216 doesn't break 60 in games, but it runs at 70 or so with atitool and furmark running.
