Quietest ever home server

Hi Guys

Well tonight i finished building my uber quiet home server. Its a dual core 1.7ghz with 2 gigs of pc 6400, a basic gpu and a gigabit nic.It cooled by a Zerotherm Nirvana NV120, 2 Noctua 120mm and 1 Noctua 92mm fan. For initial storage i have 2 WD caviar green 1tb drives which should be loads of space for now. I assembled all this into a thermaltake Armor tower. In design i wanted !quiet! to be number one and when i powered up i was well pleased as there really aint a sound out of it. !!!!!BUT!!!!!

I put the WD's into how swap bays from thermaltake,

http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Produc...C=1294&ID=1658 and because the machine is so quiet the vibration of these things is now on my nerves 100%. I finally realised that i dont need these to be hot swapped and i would like to buy the ultimate in HDD silencers, but i'm lost as to what that is!!

Could someone advise on a top notch unit that does not vibrate and kills HDD noise,i'll suffer a small rise in temp!! may be from your own personal XP.

Much Obliged

STRETCH MAGIC... michales has it ... i suspend all my hds

http://www.pepperell.com/Stretch_Magic_Beading_Cord.htm

I use 1.0MM clear cord and IMO nothing works better than actual suspension.. you can rubber mount with rubber gromets... but suspending it espically with this stuff is far far better.

Here are some pics of different hds i have suspended...

And my current best suspension job... in my latest server

Con: wasted spaces = fewer hard drives if you ever need to have multiple drives

The top pictures would be better since it'd allow a couple more hard drives installed in this manner. You probably won't need that fan if your case has decent air flow.

One thing comes to my mind: those cords if they are like the craft cords my Mother usually have, those can stretch especially when warm and may eventually break so do keep an eye on it. It will last a lot longer than rubber band.

Yep, def going to go for the first picture version. Its a thermaltake Armour so it has 10 drive bays, i reckon a quiet cd/dvd drive and then 3 of these http://www.quietpc.com/ie-en-eur/pro...ories/kama-bay at the front, i think i could hang 3-4 drives in the space behind and the quiet fans should take care of the cooling!!, what do ya think??

stretch magic is some amazing stuff... @ 1mm in diameter its stupid strong

they work pretty well in high heat situations, believe me this stuff is the bomb... and its CHEAP! I have been a quiet / silent computer lover for a while... and suspending the hds with stretch magic has been the best method i have found... i have tried rubber mounting with gromets, thick mouse pad's, suspending with bungie cords but they arnt nearly as good as detaching the hd from the case as stretch magic.

if i were you id check out silentpcreview.com forums for ideas but your best and cheapest route is gonna be suspending the hd with some type of bungie cord... and stretch magic is the key.

I wouldn't mind but the price never even came in to the equation, all i wanted was peace and quiet, but having looked around i have bought a 25 meter roll of stretch magic and as soon as it arrives i'm getting to work, i'll post back then with reports!!!

Cheers for the advice and idea guys
