$ 797 42'' 1080p 120hz Vizio @ Sams Club

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...cfkjdgoodfgn.0

This TV has really good reviews across multiple sites and stores and is probably the best price you'll get on a 120hz TV at this size. Walmart's price is $1097! Sam's Club Membership is $40 (1year) and can be registered online (still requiring a card from the store itself though when you go there.)

You can choose delivery or pick up at store option.

I am very close to getting this as I've been wanting the Samsung 40'' A650, but its around $1100-$1200 everywhere for a slightly smaller TV.

the max signal any hdtv at this point in time can accept is 1920x1080 @60hz (aka 1080p) when tv's advertise 120hz or 240hz all they are doing is creating frames in between actual frames (interpolating)... i have had a 120hz tv for a lil over 1 yr... was the first series samsung put out with 120hz, and it has horid artifacts when you run it in 120hz mode.... and the technology for 120hz hasnt gotten anybetter from any other manufacture in the past yr and a half... looked at a Mitsubishi and an lg 1080p 120hz tv today and they all showed the same artifacts (commonly called the triple ball effect)

im not saying 120hz tv's are bad im just saying that you will get a much better picture when you turn off the 120hz frame creating junk.

and actually even a full dual link dvi connection doesnt have the bandwidth to output 1920x1080 @ 120hz.

but thats a damn good deal... 42inch 1080p tv for 800 bucks is great!

its a marketing gimmik, the average joe sees a smooth picture, but doesnt see the artifacts created by the interpolation of frames.

I think i had the 120hz feature enabled on my 52incher for all of 10 min and was like.. yup im done with the weird ghosting artifacts and a non constantly smooth picture. At certain times a 120hz tv will do a great job of smoothing out motion on the screen (when big objects of decent contrast with the background move slowly across the screen) but when you have a fast moving object or a small object or both, your bound to get nasty artifacts.

I can tell you from personal experience and comparing LCD TVs side by side that 120 Hz DOES INDEED make a very noticeable difference.

It is worth the extra money.

Some like it, others don't. But the TV will still not accept a 120Hz signal from your PC. It won't work w/ the 3D goggles.

This is likely true for this TV--however, there are monitors that will accept a 120 Hz signal from your PC. There might even be LCD TVs that will as well.

120hz makes a different. My buddy has the 40'' Samsung 650 ToC. I've seen it, it rocks in the stores and he swears by it. I also have a 32'' 1080P 60hz Vizio and the difference is there. It's not useless.

SIDE NOTE: Sams Club does not accept Visa Credit. They do all others + Visa Debit. I almost crapped my pants.

ya ... crt's at lower resolutions.... at this point in time there is just no way to get 120hz at 1080p rez... as the current hdmi spec is single link dvi, and 1920x1080@60hz is essentially maxing out the single link connection.

show me a hdtv or lcd that will accept a 120hz signal at its native rez... and then ill believe.

You and I must have the same Samsung Tv - agreed 120Hz looked terrible and I've had it turned off since the day I brought it home and tried it out.

That is a very good deal on that TV though - Vizio might not be a household name, but their TVs are quite nice.

Big full colored manuals and diagrams are nice too. =)

Vizio has several models that get great reviews and are WalMart's top selling TV sets.

This is true to an extent, until you start talking about the processing that goes on with 3:2 pulldown on 24FPS movies on 60Hz sets. Even with the max 60Hz bandwidth currently supplied by the HDMI spec, the 120Hz displays are better equipped to deal with native 24FPS content.

But, yeah, the 120Hz hype is a bit overrated at the moment, but it's not entirely useless.

Correct me if I am Way off .

But HDMI ... at least 1.3a CAn handles something like triple the bandwidth needed for 1920x1080 at 60Hz.. so 120Hz would be easy.

So you would just need a HDMI 1.3a compliant system to handle 120hz correctly to use it as a monitor...

yes? no?

I also own the 650 series ToC (the 46" LN46A650) and I have seen it against every other TV in both Best Buy and Fry's. The next best TV was the Sony Bravia and the Sammy spanks the Sony like a red-headed step child. I asked the salesperson at Best Buy how he can even sell anything else and he replied "I can't. These things
[the Sammys] sell themselves."

I don't know which model Samsung the rest of you have, but there is no doubt that the Samsung 650 (or higher) series LCDs have the absolute best picture. Period.

Even the new Sony 120 Hz LCDs, though improved, are still no match for the Samsungs (650 series +).

Samsung 550 and 650 are pretty much the best HDTV's in the price range. I like the 650 so much that I'm still blowing off all the other HDTV deals and waiting for a killer deal on one. Prices really are getting better now but in my opinion it doesn't makes sense to spend a couple hundred less on a much lesser TV. Unless of course it is a spare or something.
