Just got my ThermalTake V1-AX 1366 cooler in yesterday and decided i'd wake up and tear it down to install it. All went well, the V1 had a mirror finish on the bottom and it seemed like it was seated securely.
However, once installed, it has given me the same idle temps as my pos stock cooler from intel. Further more, once I tried to run a cpu bench with prime95 (blended), the temps shot past 80c within a min. And the funny thing is that once I saw this and aborted prime, the temps STAYED at 72c-78c eventhough prime had ended. This went on till I shut down (about 5mins staying at 72-78 across all four cores) and opened her back up.
I re-seated the V1 and made sure the cr@ppy plastic mounting pins were fully seated and the tim was spread evenly. The fan is set to max on the controller and everything is working like it should from an aesthetic pov. But the temps are still high.
-Do I just need to let the tim warm up and get into position?
-What else should be done to help remedy this?
-And finally, did I end up wasting money on this V1? (hopefully not, seriously lol)
Here are my temps at idle, I kinda dont wanna see the limit again till I get some feedback. All system specs are in the sig. If I can give anymore info, let me know and i'll get it for ya to the best of my abilities. Thanks in advance guys.
Till then, I need to chill out (goes in search of his bowl... ah, found it).
