And latley ati has dropped the ball HUGE with crossfire drivers, I loved my 4850 CF and 4870 CF but the drivers just turned to poo poo

Rattle, whoa...you swapped from 4850CF to 4870CF back to 260? how much money do you have? :santa: haha. i could hardly afford a 4850. 4850 CF owns a single 260 anyday (cept for games not supporting CF). but with your mobo, it's pretty much just the performance of 1 4850...and a little bit more.

it would also load your psu a lot more than a 260 would. and i'm not sure, but it may be bottlenecked by your cpu (need at least 4.0ghz)

i wouldnt say owns, in somethings it is way faster though. they are great cards I just got sick of the driver issues. With that mobo consider a 4850x2 maybe if you want more firepower. really depends on what games you play.

grid, nfs's, cod's, crysis. 4850x2 is out of my ideal budget, maybe the 260 to push me towards the sli Light. 3 260's and a 780i sounds very appealing at $830 shipped

I'd also agree that the single 260 is probably a better way to go. You'll get as good or better performance over the 4850's with a single card. And I'd think the 4x slot wouldn't help things either.

The 4x slot won't help alot giving you a nice drop in performance. So the GTX 260 would be the way to go in this situation. If you had at least a 2 8x ports the 4850s might be more ideal.

I'd have to agree with rattle though, the 4850's are great in CF, when the drivers play nicely. Since I've been having more issues with it I went with the GTX285, yes its a hit in performance but its also faster in some cases and easier to handle. If I need more I'll just buy another for SLI.

I was looking at the same comparison (well, the 4850x2 vs. 260), and from what I've seen lately about ATI drivers, I chose the 260.

unless any weekend deals pop up im going with a sparkle Geforce 260 216 core from tiger for $209 thanks for the advice:beer:
