Welp, I just received this VF1000 to replace my card's stock crappy, noisy cooler. Problem is I got nothing to put on those voltage regulators. Will it be ok or should I wait until I can get something on? I don't overclock it nor do I plan to.
well i wouldnt do any ocing with the card definitely.. but to play it safe, there are cheap <$15 low profile enzo/swiftech that you could wait for. at stock clocks i think you would be fine though
I noticed zalman has its own separated fets heatsinks for 38XX series, but I can't find them in *any* stores. So I guess I'll go with the VF alone for the moment.
I can hear the stock fan at 60%, very annoying. It was nice during winter as I could keep it at 50% all the time and GPU temp wouldn't go past 75ºC. Now it's summer, 30~35ºC outside, and at 50% the GPU temp reached 100ºC while I was playing IL-2 Sturmovik. And 'cause the kittens sleep too close to the air conditioning I can't turn it on.
Overkill or not, I want WAY lower temps, and don't wanna hear the fans at *all* and don't want to worry about temperature in summers. I got used to quietness since I took the side panel fan off.
Before; stock cooler at 50%/70%
Idle: 56ºC/54ºC
Load while playing Lineage 2: 86ºC/82ºC
Now; VF1000 with fan at minimum rpm
Idle: 44~46ºC
Load while playing Lineage 2: 56~58ºC
Note: on boot the temperature is around 38~40ºC
Having the fan spinning at maximum rpm doesn't make much difference, just about 2ºC. I guess one could call it "temp wall".
Ambient temp is 30+ degrees celsius.
edit: cpu also had a nice drop on both idle and load temperatures. gonna run a few prime tests.
