Call of Duty 5 No Sound!!

I just got this today.

Installed, patched to 1.2, ran, no sound. Game runs fine 50ish FPS on my system.

I have a Xonar D2/PM.

I'm going to uninstall/reinstall and try to go with just patch 1.1...

Can someone help me out with this?

I also tried changing 48>44.1Khz sample rate in driver but no cigar.

Update:

The game WILL NOT RUN in 1.0 or 1.1 I need 1.2 to even get into the game, and I still get no sound..

I have tried updating to the latest audio drivers with no result.

When I run DXDIAG I get "Problem getting extra sound info" but it's always done that and all my other games work fine

I had an issue like that with windows 7. I just left speakers at 24bit 48000hz studio quality and the SPDIF out i set to 16bit 48000hz. I have a sound blaster card though.

OK, so I fixed it. It's a severely lame lazy douchebag coding issue.

My card won't do 16-bit, the game demands it (COUGH lame)

even on the official website they say that.

So anyways I just ran an extra cable (the things having 2 inputs on my speakers has done for me) from my onboard sound (which is 16 bit and crappalicious with the dynamic range of a cucumber) to the speakers and shazaam.

Now that I have sound I must say the voice acting is absolutely superb. Not.

yes after the update and the 16 bit force, I am uninterested in the game anymore. If I want 16bit sound I will fire up my old ass pc and play some games.

Its not just the 16 bit sound. Treyarch hasn't learned anything in the last five years. COD United Offensive was horribly coded horribly acted horribly scripted and just badly thought out and so is this.

What makes Infinity Ward's Call of Duty games so good is that they actually have some sort of understanding of tactics and force you to use them, especially on hard.

Treyarch doesn't realise things like- unlimited enemies do not ACTUALLY spawn out of a cave in real life. Tanks use something called cover and infantry support, etc.

A lot of their efforts feel like a high end job from a promising college student and screwups like 16 bit sound about seven years after it becomes unacceptable really bother me.

Its like Ubisoft. Eventually one of three things will happen- people will wise up and realise the Ubisoft logo means poison, Ubisoft will be absorbed into another company, which will contract Ubisoft's cancer and die, OR Ubisoft will blend with people who actually know which way is up and combine their nice level designs (the only thing they understand) with some people who understand gameplay mechanics.
