crashes when gaming

I've been having computer lockups lately when playing COD WAW. There aren't any errors in the event viewer about graphics driver errors. The computer just freezes the sound goes chk chk chk chk and on forever. Does anyone know where to start with this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm using the 8.523.0.0 ATI catalyst driver.

thanks

edit: there are lots of other errors in the event viewer under "Admin Events" like this, maybe this is the problem?? :

//./root/CIMV2
SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99
0x80041003

Are you overclocked? If so, are you stable?

Temps of the card and CPU @ load?

I'm at stock settings. The temps are very good for this card.
GPU: <50 always
CPU <40

I don't have another card or I'd throw that in and test it out for a while. Mobo doesn't have on-board graphics either.

I'm beginning to think this may not be a GPU issue at all. The error code I posted is a permission error. There are a bunch of other errors in the Event viewer as well but none related to drivers etc. Well, I might have mis-posted this but I didn't know any of this before.

One suggestion to deal with the WMI error was to rebuild the wbem repository with this command :> winmgmt /salvagerepository

It supposedly worked for someone but there wasn't anything wrong with the repository when I did it. Oh well... more research and more crashes.

Try disabling sound completely in the game settings. If it still crashes remove sound drivers. If that don't fix it it's not a sound issue. Just seen sound card/drivers do this at times. Mebbe............. it is your problem?

Hi. You very well may be right because I was having problems with the drivers not installing/uninstalling correctly. Plus that accounts for the chk chk chk chk noise the comp makes when it's locked up.

I'll see if it works. Unfortunately I won't know for sure for a while because it doesn't crash all the time.

Thanks for the good idea.
