Empire: Total War Update causes more problems

http://www.examiner.com/x-3707-LA-Ga...dditional-bugs

I haven't updated yet... and now I don't intend to. Thankfully you can disable Steam's auto-update thingy.

I have yet to encounter this crash. I didn't get it after the patch came out, but I'm getting the crashes now.

I have yet to encounter this game.....mainly due to the widespread bugs it has. Maybe it will be a good game for Summer '10.

Haven't updated. Not GOING to update until I finish the Road to Independence and a FEW more patches are done.

There was an update on the 25th that supposedly started the problems, but I didn't get the crashes until the update on the 26th. There was an update today. The information says that it should have fixed these crashes. I'll play later today and check it out.

Well the new update fixed the after battle crashes, but it got rid of most of the sounds in the game. I've never seen a game before that has had so many patches that break the game. Also the nvidia drivers after 181.22 have been acting screwy in this game.

All I did was the patch when the game came out and the patch that was the same week. Then I disabled auto-updating in Steam. STILL haven't run into any problems short of dumb AI.

You're pretty lucky then. Before these patches I would get a few ctds but it was rare. I also got a lot of ran out of video memory errors on my 8800 gts 320mb and my GTX 260 even though it has over 800mbs of video memory.....I also see a lot of people with GTX cards having the same problem.

I think I crashed once so far. 2 friends I play with and father (vista64) have not experienced anything either.

Have you updated?

I think the updates might actually be CAUSING the problems. I only updated the game once and haven't had any trouble.

Though I believe the game has some SERIOUS memory leaks. The longer it runs, the slower it performs. It's really strange...

I fell asleep for about three hours, woke up, started playing, and the animations were COMPLETELY off and the men were moving through molasses.

Still: I'm not updating until they get to 2.0 or 3.0 (or until I finish the road to independence...)

Still no major issues when playing Land Battles with friends. I did notice that at one point, many of my sound effects were gone, like artillery sounds.

How is the recent patch situation?

Gogamer has ETW at $35, which is ~the highest I buy games for these days.

The game's pretty unstable. The recent patches have only made it worse. Rainless hasn't even played half as long as I have in the past 2 weeks which is probably why I'm running into a lot more problems than he is.

Probably has something to do with the memory leaks... The longer you play, the worse it gets... Doing a long campaign (from what I've heard) seems to complicate things even further...

How it is they released this game before addressing ANY of these problems is beyond me...

They must have had to stick to a REALLY tight time frame.

Longest load time I've had so far has been Bunker Hill.

I'm sure it gets worse...

Yeah fortunately I've been able to complete my campaigns because my save games haven't been corrupted, but the crashes get worse as the campaign goes on. And you are able to do less and less battles. And some admirals will give you a ctd 100% of the time if you click on them. Basically making that fleet useless. I can't imagine how bad of a shape this game would have been in if it had released in January like it was going to.

Still don't quite understand how this game could rate so highly with so many bugs...

Reviews must REALLY not mean anything anymore...
