Thank you or looking. I am hoping to find a higher speed version though.
I am looking to get an IFX-14 and already have two quiet 140mm fans and I want the third one for when the CPU is under a lot of load so it gets that extra cooling when it needs it.
double checking, those are 25mm fans...not exactly what you asked for, but they got some power in that more svelt frame...leaves room for a 1/4" neoprene gasket to help airflow and noise....
Yeah I know it's 25mm, but when the options are sparse, you gotta compromise!
Please enlighten me on the specifics of the gasket. Is this the same principle as using a shroud on a radiator? If so, I am tracking with you. Otherwise I need knowledge.
Nope, you got it...like a fan shroud. I happen to have a sheet of self-adhesive neoprene gasket, but there's no reason an old mouse pad wouldn't do the trick.
The reason I thought to suggest it was that some hsf's use a bail wire to clasp the fan down like my Thermalright does. In that case it would be difficult to put in a thinner fan without the gasket/spacer.
It's a thin gasket. It's just a gasket. Probably rubber, helps on noise isolation to the case. Using the rubber snap in fan mounts wold go good with that. Shrouds add at least an inch to spacing. Shrouds don't do much good except on a rad for watercooling.
True, but there's no reason I can think that it wouldn't be at least a bit helpful with a different type of radiator...I live outside the box
It's always puzzled me why on earth air sinks are the only type of radiator where many makers place the fan against the fins. Not one water cooling rad does this. They all have at least a 1/4" gap between the fins and the fan mount...even Tt has figured this out.
