Anyone else have one of things things? I was going to pick up a cheap notebook cooler for folding/gaming purposes with my XPS in sig. I was somewhat surprised to find a Zalman notebook cooler over here in Korea. I got a pretty good deal on it too.
At any rate. This thing is pretty awesome. It gives me another USB port, has an on/off button, and variable fan speed. It's not just a couple of fans in a piece of plastic. It has two fans underneath and the top is just one massive vent, which allows cool air to blow into the hard drive and ram in addition to the GPU/CPU heatsink. Also, the surface where the notebook rests has some great rubber to keep it from sliding off, and the surface of the cooler is made of aluminum.
So far, it's really affective. Before my GPU was idling around 65 degrees, and now it idles around 55. My gaming temps were around 74~76 at stock speeds, but now I max at about 72~74 with a 20% overclock on the GPU. That's a solid 10 degrees difference for idle temps, and it allows me to overclock without massive concern for destroying my GPU during gaming/folding. Also, my 7200rpm Samsung HDD temp reading has dropped from a constant 42 to a constant 35!
Anyone else have one of these things? I saw that it had some great reviews on Newegg and I was practically drooling over it. I about crapped my pants when I saw one at the tech mart for about $28 US.
Here's the product on Newegg:
