Hi, im new to this Forum.

I need some advice from other experienced users.
(For my system config see end of my Post)

Just got a new AMD X2 6000+ and an Asus M2N32-Sli Deluxe.
I dont want to OC this thing, its fast enough for me...

I installed a Thermaltake TMG A3 CPU cooler, but temperature
reaches from 44°C (Idle) up to 80°C and higher @ small load.
This cooler doesnt hold down strong enough.
The heatsink can be moved sideways too easy.

So that isnt good, I tried another cooler (Silverstone Nitrogon NT01 V2.0)
with an 80 mm fan.
Yes I know this cooler doesn t fit the AM2 socket but with some modifications
it does very well! lol

So now the temp goes from 42°C (Idle) up to 100°C until emergency shutdown !! ?
Thermalgrease is applied correctly, (credit card method), Its not the first time I do this :D
I used Arctic Silver 5.

"Core temp" always shows at about 20°C lower temp than BIOS.
Why this ??
Also this tool shows temp changes from 10 °C in under 1 second ??
(Just move a windows window sideways very quick for 1 sec)

I also did a BIOS update to the newest version.

My question:

Which temperature range should be optimal ?
Which temps does other 6000+ owners have ? (idle & load)
Should a 6000+ used with Fan cooler or is it recommendet to use Water cooling for such a CPU ?
Any cooler recommendations ?

Any comments for the "Arctic-Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM " ?
Some people say they reach temps under 50°C (6000+) with this thing ??

There are too many coolers avaible, and I dont know which one to choose
who can handle a 6000+.

My System configuration:

Tower: Thermaltake Armor (big version)
MB: ASUS M2N32-SLI-DeLuxe (BIOS updated to the newest version)
CPU: AMD X2 6000+ Brisbane @ 3000MHz
RAM: 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR2 (passive cooled)
GPU: Gigabyte NVidea 6600 GT 128MB (passive cooled)
PSU: 480 W Xilence (just temporary, will be replaced soon)
OS: Win XP Pro SP2

Front end of the tower is completly "open" (with grill)
an 120mm fan is installed behind the "grill-front"

Rear end has one 80mm fan and another 120mm fan.
-> Blow out.

Thanks for your Help and advice !

:welcome: to the forums. On my 5000+ AMD system I have the Arctic-Cooling Freezer 64 Pro and it is great for these chips (Brisbanes and Windsors). My load at 3.2ghz @1.5v on my 5000+ is just above 55-60c. If you are not going to oc your chip, then it is more than perfect for you.

Thank you for the reply,

I think the Arctic-Cooling Freezer 64 Pro would be a good solution.

I Downclocked my AMD 6000+ now @ 1000MHz so it can run stable at about 45 °C until I ll get the new cooler.

I tried to add an attachment with the actual ratings:

Thanks

Welcome to OC Forums.
Wow, 100C seems to be a bit extreme, are you sure it's the cooler? I have doubts that there is a very good contact between the heatsink and the cpu.

The tall tower coolers that take 120mm fans are the best. Get one that has the bolt through type of mounting system with back plate as these really put good pressure on the heat sink and also shore up the motherboard against the weight of the cooler. The Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme (aka, "TRUE") is the best but expensive. These tall tower 120mm fan-based coolers need a fairly wide case to fit in without modification, however, at least about 8".

Thank you very much !

Yes contact to heatsink was optimal, I m 100% sure.
I think the Nitrogon cannot evacuate so much heat.

Anyway, its now downlocked to 2 x 1Ghz, you can see the screeny in my last post.

There are now sometime spontainous reboots. Very rare, 1 or 2 times a week.
I think there is sth wrong with the VCore voltage, due to the core speed changes.
Perhaps they need a small fine adjust to work properly with the new core speed?

I have to wait for my new Arctic-Cooling Freezer 64 Pro.
I m optimist that this thing would do the job.

The case is big enough to take also big coolers =)

I will post my results with the new cooler until I get it.

Thanks for help

has anyone thought that it may be an issue between the die and the heat spreader?

Yes I already thought about it.

If it doesnt get better with the new cooler i will send the CPU back, and get a new one.

Has someone an idea about the spontainous reboots ??
VCore voltage ??
Its very rare, 1 or 2 times a week.
If Corespeed is downclocked, should the VCore be adjusted higher or lower ??
(Yes I know , stupid question here at this forum lol but actually a problem for me with the wrong cooler)

Thanks a lot

i had random reboots and shut downs with my opteron. the thing that was causing it was RAM being too slow. this was happening when i was sorting out an overclock. i went into the bios and lowered the ram to 133 from 200. as soon as i put the divider back to standard its been fine ever since.. over two years now.
