Is this really high. I think so. Also within the past few weeks I had a problem with something, and while I was at it I took everything out of the case and took it all apart. I noticed that the thermal paste was messy and dry. At the time I did not have any to replace it with so I just slapped the HSF back on and went about my business. But ever since then when I play games, my computer tends to lock up. Strange thing is, on new games like dawn of war 2 and fallout 3, if it locks up it will not respond for any length of time, i have just left it sitting for 1 hour. The kicker is if I play Battlefield 2, which is no load for my computer, it will still lock up, but if i wait about 5 mins it will unlock itself and like fast forward thru like 5 mins of time. It is wild and I have never experienced anything like it. Anyway, you guys tell me if you think maybe high temp is the problem. Other things to know: the thermal paste on the cpu now is 3 years old , it is a e6600 not overclocked yet, the 8800 GTX runs at 65C not overclocked.
I have ordered off of newegg some Artic Silver 5, and cpu cleaner. I also plan to lap both HSF and cpu this weekend. Do you think this will drop my cpu temp good? If your wondering about my case setup, I have one 120mm in the front pulling in at 133cfm. I have a 140mm and 80mm on the side pulling in alot, not sure what cfm though. I have another 120mm 133cfm pulling air out the back. The HSF blows air toward the rear fan, so it exits immediately. I have the dominator memory fan, and as always my 8800GTX has a fan and so does my physics card. So the air in my case is pretty well mixed and should have no hotspots.
Also, I want to overclock my cpu to around 3.2. I think this is really in the safe zone if I can keep my temps down. The graphics card will not overclock because of the d*** screw up with nvidia and winvisa 32. I know how to fix it but I just dont see wasting the time and also with the new drivers that I have it is unfixable I think. Anyway, my 8800 never has any problem , it is my cpu.
