I ran a couple benchmark tests with 2 different cards.

My sig is my current specs right now, but before I got my GTX 260, I had 2 8800 GTS 640's in SLI.

1st test with 8800 GTS 640 SLi scored 11866 (stock cpu).
2nd test with 8800 GTS 640 SLi with cpu OC'ed to 3.5 GHz & FSB to 1337 scored 13917.

3rd test with GTX 260 216 core scored 12264 (stock cpu).
4th test with GTX 260 216 core with cpu OC'ed to 3.5 GHz & FSB to 1337 scored 14345.

I used 3DMark 06.

If you have a aftermarket HSf you should be able to push your CPU higher. Aim for 4ghz ish .

look at the breakdown of the scores and see if its just mainly your cpu score going up.

well you can see that it is going up when he oc's the cpu. though 2 8800's in sli would beat and be equal depending on the game. it is no real suprise the GTX260 is only slightly better then the sli'd 8800's.

Supermode,
as long as your cpu is 3.2-3.4ghz there is no bottleneck on the cpu side. on the gpu side that is a different matter depending on the res/aa/af you use when gaming. since you had 8800's sli'd i would have stuck with that bit longer..

3D06 :-/ the default for that benchmark is also a pretty low resolution for having so much GPU power. In that sense for 3D06 not real games the CPU might be a bottleneck but unless you're a benchmark junkie I wouldn't worry about it. 3.5GHz on an e7400 is going to be fine for most all games aside from a very few that can use quad cores.
