Folding i7 issues

howdy,


just got my i7 up and running last night. started up GPU2 for folding and first it wouldnt connect to get the Core.exe so i disabled my firewall, (if was able to download). then it looks to start , but instead it just sits there. never moves tried all the versions really.. CPU usage just hangs out at 13%, read through some of the tut's about it but couldnt find my issue, any ideas?

I had to hood up the vga plug to a monitor, (actually only have one monitor but have the dvi and vga hooked up to it and it works) have 2 9800 gtx making about 11500 a day
 
Did you use the following arguments when running the GPU2 client: -gpu 0 -verbosity 9 -local

What video card are you using?

Also, please post your FAHlog.txt file, so that we can see what it is happening.
 
i tried the arguments and did it with out them. i also tried the SMP and the regular client, they all seem to do the same thing.

running i7-920 with GTX 295 video SLi enabled.

i had this video card in my old system P4 until the i7 came and it worked fine out of the box, not sure what is diffrent here..

once it get home ill find the log files.

from what i looked at last night it loads everything ok and then sits at 0%
 
Stanford says disable SLI.

Whether you have to disable it in your OS, in the BIOS, or in the hardware at the link between the cards, may depend on your hardware, BIOS, and OS.

To be on the safe side, I've always disabled the SLI hardware link.
 
running Vista 64 right now, cant really disable sli via hardware on the 295... the problem i dont think is the card i also tried the SMP and the normal client and the same thing happens... ill play with it when i get home and post the log
 
get either Dummy DVI connectors or plug in the cards to other monitors. you also need to have the multi monitor setup set to clone the desktop. that is your problem.....

boot into safe mode, uninstall the drivers then run driver sweeper/driver cleaner. reboot, then go back into safe mode then install the drivers. if it is still rebooting, then there has to be something wrong with windows install.
 
ao i started folding last night and this is the result.. on an i7 seems very slow. used this command

Project 897 is an Amber core not a smp work unit. I don't know what's wrong as i don't fold in windows but something isn't right. I'm sure someone with more know how will be along soon. Hang tight........
 
Are you trying to fold with your cpu or with a gpu card?

This is for folding on the cpu, (if you prepared your system for it):

You're now folding with the single core "standard" client, which is the very slowest client we still have. :eek:

That is the correct initialization string, but it can only work *after* you have the system prepared for it.
Do you:

*Have dot.Net Framework 2.0 version, installed?
*Have a full administrative account *with a password*, that you're currently signed into?
*Did you run Install.bat, yet?
*Enter your name and password, as required.

If you don't follow the install directions TO THE LETTER, the SMP clients are difficult to set up correctly.

For your cpu, you will want to fold SMP wu's, but you need to follow the directions in our install sticky (MPICH) SMP is preferred, simply because it's a faster folder than the Deino SMP client, and works in more OS's.

So tell me what you're trying to do, and we'll go from there, OK?

1. all updates from Vista are installed.
2. yes, full admin
3. did install.bat
4. entered password.

i just want to fold... i have tried all 3 GPU, SMP and reg client. non seem to work to any degree

I have an I7 920 CPU
and a GTX 295

im guessing the GTX would be better to fold with?

could i do both? use Vmware or something?
