What the title says... Which one is better, difference between the 2 ?

Well, the 4850x2 would be a lot faster than the 4770.

As far as I can tell, the HD 4770 is probably about as fast as my 8800 Ultra @ stock, the 4850x2 would be closer to 2x as fast most likely.

That's about right... Both CF8770 amd 4850x2 outperform the 4890, but I can't find how they compare to each other...

They should be quite close to each other with The 4850x2 outperforming the 4770 CF by a small margin.

The 4770CF should be easier to cool, however and thus you might achieve a higher OC on them.

Thanks for the reply... I have a headache now ! Why not get 2 4850, since 4850 > 4770, and with some rebates, they're the same price !

How does XFire usually compare to X2 ?

when comparing the same card ie. two 4850's in xfire VS one 4850x2

the two seperate cards win by a small margin but when you get a x2 you have room to add a 2nd one ;) i would go with the 4850x2

4850 only beats the 4770 by around 7% and uses quite a bit more power. You can easily oc the 4770 enough to beat the 4850 and it still runs cooler.

2 4850 > 4850x2

4850 > 4770 by small margin

so we can assume 2 4770 = 4850 x2 (while using less power) , but 2 4770 < 2 4850

all this based in synthetic benckmarks , there is also alot less head ache associated with single cards versus CF

Yeah, I've heard that dual or higher GPU systems can be a real headache. And as someone who likes to tinker, but doesn't want to have their gaming experience ruined by tinkering, I wouldn't want to run two cards. But its all your prerogative .

I have not had the urge to run any dual vid card setup at all so far. But crossfire 4770's is a tempting offer!

Two HD 4770 in CF will give you the same performance as a GTX 280 while being cheaper and drawing less power on load.

The drawbacks of the HD 4770 is that it doesn't have a dual slot cooler, it has a smaller frame buffer (matters in GTA IV), and doesn't quite has enough bandwidth for high AA.

Also, there is still some games that do not support the CFX implementation (or no driver support from AMD).

I dont think many of you realized this, but stock clocks are underclocked on the 4770 (to avoid competition with the costlier 4850,ATi has asked AIB to hold OCed 4770's for a while) and it can readily outperform the 4850 when overclocked, running cooler. Thats why most etailers are getting rid of their stock of 4850's .
But there is a catch. 4770 is fit for 16x12 at max with AA. Any higher and the bandwidth will be a pain even with the memory running at the rated 1Ghz x4.

i thought memory bit rate had a say in high performance gpu's?

why is it that a 128bit card can out perform a 256bit card at hi res?

have we just been getting duped all this time?

well one high end gpu is abuot the same as 2 2 of those 4770's so no you havnt been getting "duped" lol

and i would rather get one higher end card even though it runs hotter ect ect ect because you will still have room for upgrade

if you get 2 4770's your stuck with 2 cards that are at the bottom of the chain which will make them harder to sell at a later date
