Tron 2, (the movie) started filming in April 09!!

WOW! I just heard this and haven't seen any recent threads...

There is some blurry trailer from Comicon that you can see on Youtube but not really tell what is going on, LOL. Some good things already about it are:
1. Jeff Bridges is back as Kevin Flynn
2. Pixar is doing the computer world footage
3. Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack! (I think they could pull it off...) The original soundtrack is still one of the best of any movie I've seen to this very day.
4. It is supposed to keep the continuity of the original film
5. I read the details of the plot and it seems decent so far...

Quote:
On July 29, 1999, ZDnet news reported a rumor from an unnamed source that a Tron film remake or sequel was being considered by Pixar. In 2002, Steven Lisberger discussed the planning of the sequel. On January 12, 2005, it was announced that Disney hired screenwriters Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal to write a sequel to Tron. As of 2007, director Joseph Kosinski was in final negotiations to develop and direct Tron, described as "the next chapter" of the 1982 film, with Lisberger co-producing. Filming of Tron 2.0 began in Vancouver, British Columbia in April 2009.

On July 24, 2008 Disney surprised San Diego Comic Con attendees with test footage from a sequel to Tron. Kosinski directed the promo and is currently slated to direct the film. Lost writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are slated to write the film. Jeff Bridges will reprise his role as Kevin Flynn, while Garrett Hedlund will potray Sean Flynn. The other cast are Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde, Beau Garrett, Karl Urban and John Hurt. It was also announced that electronic music duo Daft Punk will compose the score to the film. As of August 9, 2008, the Internet Movie Database entry for the film is titled TRON 2.0 with a projected release date of 2011.

Yup.

Don't forget Bruce Boxleitner. Would not be much of a film without him.

I hope they bring back 'Bit' for some scenes. Of what I could make out of the demo trailer leaked online I think it will be impressive.

As with any sequel/rehash I am hesitant....but I do have high hopes for it. It has a chance to be great.

I remember when VCRs first came out. I must have watched this movie easily over 50 times a year.

I had Tron, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, and a few taped episodes of Dr. Who, Carl Sagan's Cosmos and Jaque Cousteau that I would watch over and over.

IMDB says Bruce is rumored to be on (Alan and Tron in original movie). It would rock if Alan really did come back for sure.

I've wore out the original Tron tape I had, and picked up the former rental Tron in clamshell case. I also got 2 different DVD: the original release and the 20th anniversary issue.

I see David Warner is still alive, wonder how he'd look as MCP 30 years later? Assuming he does get called back somehow.

What about slangs? I doubt some of the phrases used in original movie would work well in modern society.

Since Pixar is involved, and they have NEVER produced a dud, it is sure to be a smash hit when it goes live and sales of original Tron may even pick up. I gotta find my vintage 4 figures set and the orange light cycle.

I've been waiting for this to come out on Bluray... Unfortunately, due to the overlapping film process, the blue glowy effect made the final product extremely grainy. The tech gurus on Bluray websites said Tron would take an inordinate amount of money to reprocess and clean up and not to expect it, if Disney decides to even attempt it, until the new movie is out.

The spoke about other movies that were released on Bluray that look horrible like the original Star Wars. Every time Luke Skywalker turns on his lightsaber or when Tie Fighters are shooting, the film looks fuzzy and grainy. Tron would look the same way.

I loved the original, but I don't think this will be as good without the 80's reference's, command-only computers, and the cheesiness

Probably not as good without hidden easter eggs like showing the computer used to create the CGI effect like Cray in one scene where Flynn and Lora was running through computer room. Or the hidden Pac Man or hidden Mickey Mouse outline.

I was just watching Tron DVD and I remembered something. In original Tron, all the program looked the same as the programmers. In 1982, not many people knew how to program the computer at all, and I was probably the only one at elementary school who was not an adult and could program in BASIC to make Commodore PET do anything but sit up and beg.

Today, it is not unusual to find some good programs made by kids and teenagers. Add to that Pixar is involved in this new movie, and they usually target young audience with their movies, I'm willing to bet we may see a few child sized programs (even if only as background extras) in the movie.

There is some promo pics on the Tron websites that I saw where the in-the-grid concept art showed most people looked like young teens. Also Jeff Bridges looks like he did back in the 80's but in the real world looks old.

I think I've learned more about the old Tron movie trying to find information on the new one, LOL... Did you know there was a deleted 'suggested' sex scene?? You can see it on Youtube. It was the most expensive part of the movie to film too but I can see why they kept this out of a kids movie.

You can get a much better quality of that deleted scene than off Youtube. If you have the 20th anniversary Tron DVD, check disc 2 for that scene.

New high definition trailer released for the movie here: http://www.flynnlives.com/media/video/0xendgame.aspx

A bunch of stupid viral ad sites were made too. Basically they talk about how Kevin Flynn disappeared in 1989 and hasnt been seen since but people think he is still "alive" somehow. (I hate these viral ad websites)

Also the official movie site for TRON: Legacy has been launched but there is nothing on it besides just a name and links to stupid Disney stuff.

FREAK'IN SWEEEEEEEET! THANKS MAN!

I remember catching a bad handi-cam/cell phone capture of this trailer a while back but seeing in in HD glory makes me more excited for this than any film in a long time.

Can't wait.
