Well, isn't it obvious? Timings are better with more expensive models...

yep, the rated timings are better on the more expensive modules. I usually snag the cheaper models and try cranking down the timings.

how low is good enough?

i am going to be using an i7 920 cooled with air, so i'm not trying to over do it on the ram.

1600MHz CL7 or CL8 is fine...
