I just ordered a new IFX-14 with the 1366 bolt-through kit for so air cooling goodness, but I’m having troubles with the installation. It came without any instructions, and the instruction for socket 775 seem to be quite different.
It’s a little easier to explain with a picture as shown above. This is the retention mechanism assembled and the screws are fastened to the maximum extent possible. The gap in the lower position in the picture is way too big and after installing on my motherboard there is excessive play (when I grab it I can wiggle it around quite easily, in fact, when I pick up the motherboard and shake it, the whole assembly rattles around) even with the screws tightened all the way down. I thought maybe the IFX-10 was required for installation, because that would take up the slack in the space there. But there is absolutely no point in installing it because it will not make contact with the mobo due to the factory socket backplate on every 1366 mobo (besides the fact that it’s been shown not to help anyway).
The gap at the top I also found a bit strange that the springs do not even make contact with the top bracket. I did not make it to a full fledged installation, so maybe this gap will be closed once it is fully installed…but I thought I’d point it out anyhow.
I wrote an e-mail to TR tech support, so hopefully they'll get back to me
