windoz media player 11 not showing video

Howdy..I am having trouble getting video to work in media player 11.
It will show some videos but most are just blank...it will have audio but no video.
Could I have gotten ahold of a corrupt codec?
any suggestions to solve this would be most appreciated and thanks in advance,

Bad codec would be my quess. Do you have list pane open and does it have the red x in a circle?

VLC Media player has recently gone to 1.0. I heard it's really good.

I personally use Media PLayer Classic with K-lite codec pack standard. Works great!!

Thanks fer the replies...I dled K-Lite and now have every file working as they should..now if I can just remember where to turn off the automatic codec d'l
