Question i7 920 working properly?

CPU: i7 920 D0 Stock
Windows 7 RC 64bit

Hello all, I've had this processor for about 2 months and have been very happy with it. The only thing is that when I bought it, I never really tested it to see if everything was running fine. If all the cores are working properly, voltages and temps look fine. The computer is in my desk enclosure.

I havent had any problems but every so often I'll get a hiccup and always wonder in the back of my head if its because of the processor, you know, because I never tested it properly. So if you guys could tell me if anything looks out of the ordinary that would be great. Im posting some pics but if more are needed I can do that. Im planning in OCing after I get a new cooler so just wanna make sure everything is in working order.
Thanks in advance!

hows the air flow being in that desk? i see that the back is cut out, might want to move it away from the desk a bit more, the i7 does run hot. from the looks of it you seem to be ok. as far as OC goes, you will need an aftermarket CPU fan, I recommend the TRUE, its one of the best and its only like 60$

A lil' bit oh the high side for idle. Try to run prime95 Small FFTs with HT on. Post a screenshot with RealTemp after 15 minutes of prime95.
What's your ambient temperature? You can try to find lowest Vcore for you stock speeds and stable CPU.

well, that, and those core volts seem a little high for stock. but that may just be my preferences.

What sort of TIM did you use when you installed the stock Intel HSF? Idle temps look a bit high, but your loaded temps will tell the true story.

Yeah, that looks fairly warm for idle, even with stock HSF. It would be helpful if you listed all your components.

What do you mean by "hiccup"?

Run prime 95 and see what temps you get.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Well here are my full specs:
Windows 7 RC 64bit
Antec 300
Corsair 750TX
Corsair Dominator 6GB
EVGA X58
i7 920 D0 Stock
WD 640GB
8800GT (for the time being)

I ran Prime 95 64bit like many of you suggested. One of you said to enable HT but I could not find that in the options. I would say my ambient temperature to be around 78-79 Anyways here are the screenshots.

First test for ~15mins

Second test after reboot for ~15mins

Also, I heard the TRUE was the best to get but could not find it in newegg. However, they do have this which also looks good. But thats another topic:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835608007

I'll take any suggestions/recommendations. Just want to be sure things are running accordingly. Oh and when I wrote hiccups i meants that very vaguely. You see in my head I have this idea that the i7 is this superchip that should open things instantly. For example Im use to Photoshop CS4 to open within 3 seconds, sometimes it takes 5...lol I know. Also when people say things like " Im running a 435534 programs with the i7 and its only using this much of my CPU", where exactly are they getting this number from?

Thanks.

It's in BIOS but it's enabled since you have 8 threads in prime95.
78C is still OK. Close to the edge but still OK.
You should invest in an aftermarket heatsink if you can. More silence, colder CPU and higher OC.

Task Manager from Windows of Process Explorer. Or if you take a look at RealTemp or CoreTemp you'll see your CPU load.

Those temps should be better. cut out the back completely and remove the front door. put the pc all the way to right right so it has side airflow and you will be golden.

Have never tried the Noctua cooler myself, but Im running the two fans that come with it on my TRUE copper, they are usually about 20 bucks or so each.

I guess doesn't mean the cooler itself is good I've no idea, but I went with their fans at any rate.

Noctua cooler is excellent, i'v seen it overperformed TRUE in some tests, however, in most TRUE was the leader. You cant go wrong with any of those.

Is it normal that worker 1 and 6 are stuck on Worker starting? Because they stayed like that the whole time...
