The nice guys at Asus over in Oz, sent me an X58 RE2 to have a wee play with :D

I still have (and love using) the X48 RE, so I was really looking forward to trying out this board.

Once you get into it, the first thing you find is how easy it is to overclock. And for an X58 board, soo very forgiving if you over do it.

Talking about overclocking, the on board overclocking buttons are just great, being able to change BCLK's, Volts etc on the fly with out the use of software is outstanding!
The LCD Poster that comes with it gives you all the read outs you need.

There is also a great thread over at XS, with lots of good info on this board.

Test bed

MB - Asus Rampage 2 Extreme
CPU - i7 975
RAM - OCZ 2000Mhz Cas 7
CPU Cooler - F1 EE Pot (Dry Ice)
VGA - 2 X GTX260's
PSU - 750w
HDD - 1 X 320 SATA & 1 X 40 PATA

Bad news first, as it turns out. My cpu does well on Air, but not so good on the cold stuff. As is very offen the case. Best CPU-Z shot is 5455Mhz :(
But we won't let that stand in the way, but it will mean that I'm stuck in and around 5Ghz for 3D with this chip and cooling.

For any one that doesn't know, there is a driver issue that has not been fixed yet. So CH and N bug very low with this kind of setup.
For two GTX260's, this score is 3rd on hwbot, the two rigs in front are E8XXX/790i which do not have the driver issue. (Less than 200marks from 2nd)

3D03 - 117634 - 2 X GTX260's

This is first for two GTX260's on hwbot. LOL I only ran it the one time.
Will try for over 120K when I have more time.

3D05 - 37340 - 1 X GTX260

2nd on hwbot for one GTX260, will try sli later.

3D06 - 31804 - 2 X GTX260's

1st on hwbot for two GTX260's

AM3 - 378278 - 2 X GTX260

am3378278total.jpg

2nd on hwbot for two GTX260's.
In pre-testing, I was able to run this bench @ 5153Mhz, yet for the run above I'm 100mhz below that. Will try again soon.

This is what the setup looks like.

Lot's more to do, and I really need to get my hands on some ln2, and see if I can get a little more out of this cpu.
All ORB files have been saved, will upload when I have some more time.

I'll be getting this board soon hopefully :) Another good review, makes me feel even better about buying it

Yes. How terribly slow... Only 5.45Ghz on an i7. :p
