Core2 Quad Q9550 overclocked not working

Hello There
My little brother overclocked my Core 2 Quad Q9550 Malay processor computer. I don't know anything about overclocking and now the system is not working. Is my processor is burnt?

When I turn on the machine, I can see all the fans rotating. But the system is not even coming to POST. Its black screen.

My motherboard is ASUS P5N-D. I tried reset bios unplugging that round battery. But
that doesn't help.

Please let me know what can be done. Is my processor burnt? or motherboard dead?

Please advise guys!

thanks in advance
gulumal

Turn the power off by switching off the power supply or unplugging the computer. Open up the case, find the motherboard battery (it looks like a big watch battery), and take it out. Wait 20 seconds. Put the battery back in, plug the computer back in, and power it on.

Did that fix it?

Is the PC speaker plugged in? It should give you a beep code if there's an error on boot...

Also, if you're still up, pull the plug and pull the battery before you go to sleep, and leave it out all night. That has fixed problems for me in the past.

thanks again Johan. Yes I'm up and I just checked here before going to bed.
Going to unplug the battery and see. I think my speaker is connected. But
I can't here any sound from it though

I think my CPU fan is dead. Will the system stop from POSTing if
the CPU fan is dead?

thank you

Reset CMOS by moving the 2-pin jumper from pins 1-2 (Normal - Default) to 2-3 (Clear CMOS Data). Leave the jumper on pins 2-3 for about a minute, then move it back to the default pins 1-2. The jumper is located just to the left of the SATA ports on the P5N-D.

I dont have that board, but my friend has a different Asus board, and there are a lot of chances that if the board does not get the rpm from the CPU fan, they might not post (am not sure), but on my friends board, it gave some sort of message, do you have a spare fan that you can just stick on the cpu heatsink and try?

I removed CMOS battery overnight I tried in the morning and it doesn't help me. I'm not sure if the speaker is connected. Where do I check it? I mean, do you know where the speaker connection go to on this board? There are lot pins and its confusing me. I cannot see any speaker inside my box. If you have any ideas please let me
know.

I tried what you suggested. It does not help me. Thank you very much
for your help. If you have anything else to check kindly let me know.

Is your power supply coming on but your screen stays black? Make sure your powersupply is coming on when you turn it on. Also make sure you didnt put the CMOS battery back in upside down. If your PSU is coming on and the CMOS battery is in correctly then the prognosis isn't good.

The above suggestions to clear the CMOS was the best thing to do but it would have reset your mainbaord to default settings that you need to correct for your particular configuration but you would still be able to POST.

If he screwed up the overclock, he may have fried any number of things. But a lot of the time the system will just not work at all under settings that are outside of its capabilities. No POST after a cleared CMOS means that it will be hard to trouble shoot without replacing stuff like the RAM, CPU and Mainboard itself.

Thanks again for all of you reply. Here is answers to all of you consolidated.

1. I pulled the powerplugg. Removed that button battery from board. And
pulled the jumper and moved to 2-3 and waited a minute and did everything
in reverse. The jumper's top is closed, so it will go only in oneway.

2. My power supply comes on, and all fans are rotating. Nothing on screen.
I felt the processor and there is absolutly no temperature.

3. My video card is MSI with High def out. it has 2 outlets and its pretty
big. My power supply ZU 650. I tried a VGA card as well and nothing on
scree.

The funning this is that there is speaker connected but it does not
make any beep sounds.

Now here is the thing. I tried a different power supply and found that,
CPU is getting heated. With the old one there was nothing on cpu. Does that
give any hope? But still no beeps or nothing on screen.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks
gulumal.

To do a complete reset I like to just power down the PC, and then flip the switch on the PSU which will kill all power. Then I hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds. That will discharge all the capacitance on the board, and sometimes the fans will try to spin for a second.

Then reset the CMOS by moving the jumper and then moving it back.

See if it will boot then.

If not try running only 1 stick of RAM (try all sticks like this in various slots).

If it still doesn't work then pull everything out of the case, and run it w/ minimal hook-ups. Just 1 stick of RAM, CPU, HSF, gfx card.

Put the mobo on a piece of wood or cardboard (nothing metal!).

It sounds like the fans are spinning, but it is unclear if the CPU fan is spinning. Please clear that up.

Try to remove all RAM, and boot. Do you get any beep codes? Do the same w/ the gfx card and see if you get any beep codes.

Where did you buy your PC? Was it pre-built?

That would be bad...

LOL, I didnt think of that.... He could have flashed the BIOS and hosed it up which would explain it not POSTing.

BTW if the CMOS battery isn't in there, moving the jumper doesn't do anything heh. Its either one or the other bud. I prefer moving the jumper myself.

RAM is definitely the next suspect! Its a typical mistake, they juice up the FSB and forget about the RAM. Along thoes lines, RAM voltage may not be high enough or could be too high if the settings have been messed with who knows. We will know a lot more as soon as you can POST! GL

CPU fan is not spinning.

When I removed all the memory chips and powered on
it started giving me long beeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. At last I heard something from it. I bought
the parts and friend of me built it. He is abroad on military duty.
( Nahh I don't kill my lil guy...I wouldn't trade him for 100 of those computers heheh)

So does it mean my RAM is bad?

thank you all guys and gals.

When I replaced all of them it booted up. Oh boy what an experience!

If you guys where not, I couldn't have done it.

thanks a bunch guys!!!

Wow. That's quite a lot of dead components. You should try substituting them back in one by one to see if they're all actually dead, or if it was just one or two of them.

It's very odd for overclocking to kill components like that, but it's not impossible.

Unless the power supply is what killed everything and the overclocking didn't. If that's the case, everything on power is suspect.
