new psu

Hi guys,
I am in the market for a new psu and i have my eye on 2 atm,i have read a couple of reviews but decided to make a thread here for better advice since alot of pros hang out here

Here's the 2 psu that i have my eye on

http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...o=ST1500&area=
http://thermaltake.com.au/Products/P...ower1500W.aspx

TBH i like the silverstones price,but is it a better quality than the Thermaltake? or should i just shell out the extra $$$ for the Thermaltake?? or maybe theres a better one that i dont know about,The prices that i can get them for is like this
SilverStone = $390Aus
Thermaltake = $567Aus

Regards
ck

Welcome to the forums, what will a 1500W PSU be used to power?

I would seriously look into whether 1500W is overkill.

Doing an Advanced Forum Search for posts by Senior Member

would probably set anyone reading this thread in the right direction.

Use his user name on the right and Keyword(s) on the left such as
1200W
1000W
850W

1000watts is more than sufficient for thr rig mentioned. Assuming the 5870x2's should be at LEAST as efficient as the later 4870x2's, a 800Watt power supply should suffice.

That said, if you buy a 1500W power supply, then you will have tons of wattage to spare, which translates into a cooler setup and also a more quiet running PSU.

I would read reviews on both before buying. The reviews for the thermaltake show great quality, but I havent found any for the silverstone.

I'd say go for the Silverstone if those are your only 2 options, Thermaltake isn't too great to go with, but personally if I were in your shoes I would look into a higher end Corsair offering.

If you need to go above 1,000watts, then I'd say take a look at the Enermax Galaxy EVO EGX1250watt, I believe that's the one I saw over at JohnnyGuru with great reviews.

There's no difference. Same unit. They only did two models because nVidia won't certify something AMD did, and vice versa

I daresay 1500W is an overkill. Maybe take a look at some of the 1000W units available. Should still be more than you need while take future upgrades into consideration.

Corsair units are pretty common here in Australia too mate.
