pc2-6400 instead of pc2-8500

Ok, so my pc's manual says to use pc2-6400. I was wondering if it was ok to use pc2-8500 or if it would some negative effects or something. A friend of mine had 4gb of some patriot ram lyin around and he gave em to me.
 
it isnt going to hurt anything to use higher rated ram. as it has the JDEC standards programed into them. meaning it will work in oem boxes at JDEC speeds. the highest JDEC speed being DDR2-800 [email protected].
