well, im making an i7 rig, and have only been buying parts as i got the money, as long as they could temporarily go into my old build(an amd 3000+)

so, im not sure about what ram to get, but im kind of good with the MB
i eventually plan to do 2 way sli, if not 3 way, in the distant future. also, i want to eventually get an ssd.

any one have any suggestions?
budget is around $1500

what i am going to buy

ASRock X58 Extreme $170
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157163

i7 920 $290
dont think i need a link

CORSAIR DOMINATOR-GT 6GB (3 x 2GB) $240
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145269

black caviar 500 gm $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136320

Megahalem $70

what i already have
HAF 932 $125
10 red R4's (fans) $90
Corsair 750HX $170
BFG gtx 285 $250

Those are both links to RAM.

I would so not buy that motherboard though that the OP suggested.

A good X58 mobo is up near $300.

Or more.

Also the faster compturs get, the more you notice that you're using a pokey drive.

single 7200RPM+GAMING= a lot of "WOW!" followed by "please wait while wow loads"+

Seriously though- very respectable CPU, GPU, case...
get the respectable motherboard. It matters.
Good motherboards are the most important part of good systems.

Any ~$200 mobo will likely get any i7 chip to 4Ghz. Im not sure what your definition of a "good X58 mobo" is though. I would get the UD3R over that Asrock. Though admitedly, I havent heard much about the Asrock board and its abilities. ;)

Corrected link, thanks!

If you really do plan on going 3 GTX 285's, why not pay a little more than $170 for a motherboard. Any of the eVGA Tri SLI boards will work great, especially the Classified :)

the ASrock board got the recommended buy from toms, and the ram ive seen a few good reviews. also, i like corsair products, and there cs. thirdly, i like the red look.

i guess if i spent less on the ram, i could get a better MB

im think the EVGA E758-TR for a MB. how does it oc?

still unsure about ram though. i would like to be able to overclock a good bit. i have a lot of airflow in my case, and so heatsinks could actually be of some use.

IMHO it's better than the Rampage II Extreme, but that's just me ;) I took that board all the way to 229-230 Bclk (on water), for some SuperPi 1M runs.
