Question New Computer please help.

Hi there, we got another computer today after our Dell died on us 0_0.
Our new one is a HP pavillion. It has a 21.5 inch wide screen monitor and im having trouble getting used to it as some websites such as facebook and some others are shown as if they are in 4.3 setting and everything is smaller and in the middle of the page.
I have it on the correct screen resolution for what the monitor is. Do you know how i could make everything more full screen? Putting the pc on full screen dosent help.I also have my font set to largest.
Many thanks.

Please let us know what your resolution is at. What your video card is running at and what the res the monitor is at.

Not to be rude or condescending or anything and REALLY I'm trying not to be, but the person who buys a Dell or an HP probably isn't going to know this information and most likely will find these forums a bit more advanced for their skill level.

Now, to answer the poster's question. If you already have Windows set to widescreen and are still not getting the wide display, then there is probably a setting on the monitor's menu that will allow you to adjust it to 4:3 or 16:9 .

About resolution and font size: The bigger the resolution, the smaller all of your icons and fonts will look unless you have some kind of scaling feature turned on but that kind of defeats the point. A higher resolution gives you more detail and larger real estate on screen at the expense of smaller icons and font text ie: 1920x1080 will let you fit a LOT more icons and on the desktop and see high resolution photos without scrolling but your icons and fonts will look tiny. 1280x720 will make your icons and fonts look larger but with less desktop real estate and you may have to scroll to see all of a large high res picture.

Your best bet would be to play around with the resolutions until you find something that suits your tastes.

Thank you so much, this is only my second computer I know a bit but obviously not as much as yourselves.
How do I set the computer to widescreen through windows? sorry to seem thick.
Also google toolbar i just installed is changing my font size to medium all the time and I have to keep resetting it to largest, I know its the google tool bar as it did it on my Dell.
I love google toolbar I have a AOL one but it has no spell checker built in etc.
Any ideas why its making the fonts change? thanks.

I think the issue isn't the actual monitor resolution, but the way that websites are displayed.
The example I can think of is that most sites are designed with 1024 resolution standard.

I think you're more looking for a browser modificaiton.
In firefox you can use ctrl and the + key to zoom text (by default) or under view>zoom you can have it zoom inages too.
