Anyone here own an ION-based Netbook?

I saw these little buggers pop up on Newegg (Lenovo and HP Mainly) and I was kinda of curious how a laptop with an Atom 1.6Ghz CPU was running with *essencially* an Nvidia GeForce 9400m.

Thought it'd be kinda cool to have a netbook that can play games at a decent rate - anything would be better than the onboard Intel my Girlfriend's EeePC has

Older ones - definitely not looking to play Crysis on a freaking Netbook or laptop for that matter but I'm concerned they've paired a GeForce 9400m with such an underpowered processor. Just watching watching the Youtube videos of it playing CoD it seemed to chop up real bad ... even did it in WoW for that matter.

I'm talking old school games like Dawn Of War/KOTOR/Empire Earth/Warcraft/ETC...

If not I may just look at a regular NOTEBOOK but all of them have 17'' screens and weigh 80 pounds, they're basically desktop replacements.

well for those games your prolly going to have to use low detail settings. i used a Asus N4L-VM DH with a T1300 (this is not a core 2 cpu) at 1.6ghz with a 8400GS. i would play battle for middle earth II with med details at 1024x768 and it was rather smooth.

Hmm well thats comparable to the ION Chipset.

I watched some YouTube vids and didn't seem too impressed with it...maybe if it was $200 cheaper

I think I'm just gonna give up on Netbooks/Notebooks because it seems like its either one extreme or the other - an 80lb monster thats way too big or a cute and petite thing with absolutely no power to it.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but now I have my eyes on two things:

1.) Netbook from Asus - $489.00 from NewEgg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220659

2.) MSI Laptop w/ T4200 and ATI Radeon 4330 - $599.99 from NewEgg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220659

Comparing charts from the Mobile CPU/GPU charts that I googled it would seem that the MSI is 1.5x - 2.0x faster than the netbook and only $120 more.

The main thing I can't decide on is the fact that its a 16'' Laptop (Not very portable) and the fact that the "FN" key is where the CTRL key should be (How bad would that mess up your gaming? lol)

****e nevermind - I think I'll just get a Dell Inspiron 15.

Comes with a Dual-Core i3 and an ATI 4330 ... only $150 more and several times the power *shrug*

I just don't like the ION Netbooks based on how weak the CPU seems to be, the GeForce 9400 is a great addition to it but the CPU holds it back
