qpi & divider (cpu or mobo controlled)

looking at some reviews and not getting a clear answer .. same cpu in question but some say qpi is locked and divider options limited some say its not

qpi feature locked on some cpu's ? or is it up to the mobo ?
same for ram dividers ..


cpu in question is the xeon w3520 (which is a i7 920 i guess)


also can somebody toss me a link so i know what cores came out when (whats newer bloomfield or nehalem ? ) ..differences between the W's, E's, L's, X's ??

well the W/E/L/X are for server only and is broken down like so...

W=130watt TDP
X=95watt TDP
E=80watt TDP
L=60watt TDP

QPI speed is based on the divider, as in one model Server based cpu will have 4.8 at stock speed. Another higher end would/might have 6.4 at stock. the QPI speed will change once you start to oc the cpu, obviously the higher divider would allow higher QPI faster then a lower divider one.

Nehalem was first and is c0/c1 stepping, Bloomfield was second(newest) and is D0 stepping.
