help me choose psu ....

the only piece on my build i cant decide on ... the wattage calculators im using are giving me different numbers as well... here is my build...

cpu - i7-920
gpu - 5870 (x2)
mobo - evga 141-bl
ram - gskill 4 gig (x4)
pump - swiftech 355 (x2)

should i go with a 850w or 1000w for upgrade room ?
and is thermaltake a good brand or should i stick with corsair ?

yeah at a glance i'd say around 850w should be ok?
750w sounds a bit worrying for me, especially if you're going to overclock your i7.

good 850 watters are the Corsair HX 850, Antec Sig 850w, Enermex Revolution 85+...just to name a few.
i'm not a big fan of Thermaltake PSUs, but their Toughpower line pretty good, though i don't think it comes as an 850w model.

check out this link, it lists all the tested and recommended PSUs of all wattage ranges.

For that system, a Corsair 850TX/HX would be just fine and allow for enough headroom for future upgrades. A 1kw PSU is overkill for any 2 single GPU setups.

ewiz has been selling the antec 1200 for $199american but was out of stock the last I checked, should be about time for it to be back, very good value there.

Wrong thread? ^^

Also I noticed the OP only had 4GB of ram. With i7 920 and X58 motherbaord, you should get 3x2gb of ram for triple channel operation.

Dave,

Good suggestions posted here from Richard's sticky link but it also depends on your budget. Don't go cheap!

If you're on a budget take a look at the SilverStone Strider series. Great quality PSU's for the price. Otherwise I'd look at the Antec Signiture Series.

1000w seams a bit too much for any system. most you will need is 850w, especially if you buy a good quality 850w PSU.
checked out the link yet?
and out of the 3 you listed, if you tone down the wattage to 850w models, yeah i'd pick the Corsair HX 850 over the Antec TP Quattro. the Corsair looks better i reckon ...with all the modular cables etc. the Antec TPQ is only half modular...so it's still a little messy.

i'm not TOO sure on this but you will need to get a kit with 3 sticks to be able to run triple channel. did you mean 4gb (x4) in your first post as in 16gb total?! or 4x1GB sticks?
