Question Newbie wants to get started

I've been checking out the forum for a few days and reading the beginners guides and I think I'm ready to try my hand at this crazy stuff. I have a AMD k62-500 chip on a GA-5AX board. The thing that is holding me back is lack of knowledge about how to monitor everything. It seems that mos of you use a Windows program to moitor everything. I use Linux and I haven't found a program to help me keep track of everything. Does anyone here know of such a program? My board doesn't have sensors so I may be out of luck anyway.

Without sensors, you are probably out of luck. For reference, I have heard about a program for Linux called ls_sensors.

Of course, you could always buy and external temp monitoring device like a compunurse.

What about cpu speed? How do tell what speed the cpu is operating at?

I'm glad to hear you have read the beginners guides! They are the backbone of this forum. As for your chip, it is very stubborn. You would be very lucky to get over 600.
