How much vcore safe for 24/7 on 965c3 revision????

Just curious, I was running a prime 95 test last night at 3800mhz with 1.41vcore (like 1.406 in windows and 1.392 under load) and it failed about 17 hours into testing. After playing with the cpu voltage and cpu vid (board has both setting) and putting voltage at like 1.42 and vid at 1.38 (approx for both figures) i ended up with a idle voltage per cpuz of 1.416 and a load of 1.40. Just wondering how far can you push these chips (I know amd spec says 1.40v but i ran my 720be for 1 year straight at 1.45v and max spec on that was 1.425v) without incurring meaningful degredation.

I would prefer realistic approaches and not answers from people who are obviously biased against overclocking nor those who believe run it into the ground till it fails and return it to newegg (as seen at the amd forums lately). I want chip to last probably 2-3 years without failing or damaging it.

VID is stock vcore setting. CPUz is unreliable for cpu voltages I can push 1.6 through a chip and have CPU read 1.35.

Check your mobo sensors readings to see what vcore you are really using.

As far as max 24/7 Meh 1.4-1.45 sounds okay.. I am not a 24/7 OC guy though, I am a balls out... or run CnQ guy

I've always considered 1.45v to be the safe limit with good temps and I expect my gear to last 3-4 years minimum.

I've seen lots of people running more than that, though and who can tell what future impact that will have on their systems, good or bad ...?

Yeah i sorta figured 1.45v was a more realistic number considering that was what i had used before with my tri 720 and it did'nt start degrading (and now sons computer will get a worth upgrade). I just wanted some input from the more experienced members here since amd's spec on there website said 1.4 which seemed a bit low to me. Thanks Neuro and Quiet.

P.S. Seems its actually taking around 1.435v (1.424 under load per cpu-z) to keep it stable at 3800mhz. A bit high maybe considering alot of people get 4.0ghz or close from stock (albiet probably not truely stable only enought to get validation) but still very well below the 1.45 suggested. If this proves to be stable with a 24 hour run will probably leave it here and not push chip further. Temps at this voltage using the prolimatech megahalems (sorry quiet I thought long and hard about the true but the ARM-01 bracket pushed me over the edge towards the megahalems) after 12+ hours of prime blend has only touched 51c at highest and is at 47c now per coretemp.

The TRUE is old tech and I'm sure there are better things out there now at the top end. It was the first "extreme" air cooler I ever bought and will probably be the last. If I need really good cooling water is the only way to go. After the TRUE I bought two Sunbeam 120s, which do an excellent job considering their price, so for me it'll be either water or good, cheap air ...
