Time for a rebuild, just ordered my parts!

I realized recently after installing BFBC2, that I haven't updated any hardware in my system in over 3 years...and it shows trying to run the game. My specs are:
AMD Athlon X2 6400+ BE
Asus Crosshair
2 x 1 GB Mushkin Extreme
OCZ GameXstream 700w
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB (overclocked through bios)
Windows XP Pro

SOOOOO, I decided it's time for a rebuild! I just ordered:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
4 x 2 GB Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
XFX RAdeon 5850 Black Edition
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I'll be re-using my 150gb WD Raptor, and my optical drives. I should have everything by Friday, and hopefully I can get this thing together over the weekend!

Why didn't you get a 5870? It's like $60 more or so.

I got the video card at MicroCenter locally...they didn't have any 5870's in stock. Everything I've been reading says that the 5850 will overclock to just about 5870 specs. The comparable XFX 5870 is $100 more...I was browsing the forums here, and the consensus was that there is NOT a $100 difference between the cards performance...the better card for the money is the 5850. That's another reason I got the 5850.

I've currently only got Viewsonic 19" VX922 monitor. 1280x1024 resolution is it. I'd like to buy another monitor later this year...maybe a 24" widescreen, but for now, the VX922 is it. If the 5870 is that much better of a card, I'll take the 5850 back, but from what I read, it did not justify the price difference.

In your case, it doesnt. That low res is going to be more CPU dependent than anything. Keep the 5850. The 5850 will be fine now, and for your 1920x1080/1200 monitor. I would still use 4GB of ram though unless you run VM's or do a lot of heavy heavy encoding/photoshop work.

W00t another clevelander...where about? Im from Solon (SE suburb).

I'm in Brook Park. If I go to a 24" monitor, will I need the 5870? Also, will 8 gigs of memory hurt me? I figured the more memory, the merrier! I don't do a lot of photoshop, but I have a LOT of 8mm and mini DV tapes to transfer to DVD (eventually!)

You were in the parking lot of my office ! Is the $100 price difference worth it for a 24" monitor?
