hello everyone. well i have been a consol gamer for years and also played a little wow everynow and then. i used to be a sponsered halo player. but now consol games and graphics are borign me i am looking for something more graphic intense so for the last month or so i have gather 800 bucks and have finally decided that i am going to build a gaming pc . it will also be for video editing. this laptop just isnt cutting it anymore it wont even run wow nowadays. ok so i dont need the latest and the greates like a 5870 gpu or anything what i am looking to purchase are parts that can run xfire and overclock and beable to be amazing in the near future.. i will be purchasing from newegg but i do live in cali so i have to pay alot in tax
id prefer and amd build. i just got done reading an article on how there phenom 2 dual cores can basically be made into a quad so that actually sounds more my rooute than a expensive intel..but anyways i have been researching alot and know what parts to get but i dont know brands.
so if somone could post some parts to get me going im looking to spend around 800 would like to be able to play battlefield bc2 crysis and wow. dont need monitor or keyboards etc just need an oc and the main parts
thanks sorry if this was long :p

Here's what I came up with, $730 without a case, should be enough left over to pick a decent one, especially after rebates.

Yes, some of the AMD dual/tri core processors unlock to a quad core, however it is not guaranteed they will. IMO, if you need a quad core, you should just buy one and not bet that your dual will unlock. The Athlon II quad is a huge bargain at $99.

Edit:
I see you mentioned overclocking, you will probably want to invest in a better cpu cooler, the stock one is pretty terrible. If this eats into your budget too much you could always run @ stock for a bit until you get some more cash. The Sunbeam Core Contact is one of the best bang for buck coolers out there right now.

The advice I'd give to a first-time system builder is that you cannot future proof your build, but you can future proof certain components. For you first build, you want to ensure you buy a nice case and PSU. It's also a good idea to get a popular heatsink so you may not have to spend money on a new one when a new socket comes out; they're more likely to build new mounts for popular heatsinks.

Expect to upgrade every 12 - 18 months or so.

You'll probably spend the least money if you got with AMD, but I know nothing about AMD's products nowadays, so I can only suggest parts for an intel build:

That's a quick core parts build that will run you around $670; might break your budget a little once you pick out a case and hard/optical drives.

Also too, I wouldn't suggest buying from newegg. I buy my parts from amazon since newegg doesn't ship free to my location. I often use newegg to research parts and organize a list, then I look for the same or similar parts on amazon and get them shipped to me for free. You may be able to avoid sales tax by using someone other than newegg; they're not the only hardware vendor out there.

ok so that takes me to about 800 without a case
i was lookin to get this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147144 so im 60 bucks over my limite and thats kinda pushin it..
would this be a good alternative to save money? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.349613
if i remove the gigabyte mobo and the other cpu
with those changes im at 810 wich is perfect..
is it all compatible though?
and in the near future could i buy another gpu and xfire it with tht mobo?
also i think with the help of you guys i can make a good attemp to unlock the other cores and i love tweaking with stuff so it should be a fun challnge haha
this was a respawns to adub respowns to temp is on its way haha

ok temp i love tht build but thts putting me close to 1000 wich is way over the limit.. im more of a amd guy anyways :p

Rosewill cases are decent, just stay away from their psu's. That's a pretty good combo, and there's a chance the dual will unlock to a quad, even if it doesn't, it will overclock like mad.

You might want to see if you can squeeze in this combo to get the C3 Phenom II:

ok so iv changed the processor to the c3 phenom everything else is the same
cant decide on a case though..kinda stuck between http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147144
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066

the antec is on sale haha
will be purchasing the new cpu cooler after i get the build running, should be purchasing tonight cant wait

They both look decent enough. Specs say the Rosewill is 10 pounds vs 15 for the Antec. The Antec will probably have a sturdier build. Neither of them appear to be tooless though. After using tooless cases I'll never go back, it really is much more convenient.

These cases are in the price range of the two you linked:

got a different case haha i live in cali so it should be here by friday just picked up windows seven today..now i only know a little about the componets but i have noe lcue what order to put it in and stuff like that any advice?

Nice... go phenom though not athlon... there are enough deal available and TBH.. newegg sucks lately for prices...

a) phenom II clocks a hell of a lot farther than athlon..

b) for a computer.. the phenom is a lot better "feeling" than an athlon processor. maybbe its L3 maybe it is something else dunno... my athlon II setups feel like OEM rigs even at 4GHz

Nice choice on the case! The Storm Scout is awesome. I didn't suggest it because it was a bit more than the others you were looking at.

haha yah i decided to spend a little more on the case
any advice for the build itself iv been watching videos how to do everything i think i have that down. any pointers?

Install Mobo -, make sure that u dont put extra washer or it will fry it.
Install Cpu , Ram then Gpu.
Plug the psu powerplug into mobo (24 Pin - 4/8pin)into mobo and 6pin into the video card.
Boot into the bios. If boot is succesfull plug hardrive - cd drive and install the os.

ok thanks gros for the advice
ok so i think this week end im gonna by a wireless card for this build can somone recommend one for me.
