Hello,

I have an AMD Dual-Core 7750 Black Edition, which is supposedly an unlocked card. People have been able to unlock it into a quadcore and relatively easily bring it up from the stock 2.7GHZ to about 3.2GHZ with no problem or voltage changes. But that's simply that I'm looking to do, not unlock it into a quadcore, as I don't have the cooling for that.

My problem is that the BIOS does not display or allow me to change the multiplier or voltage, even though its a Black Edition and fully unlocked. I'm wondering if the motherboard might be useless for this, and I can't seem to find any software that works to change it through windows.

I'm not sure, but could it be my motherboard is incompatible? It's an ECS motherboard with NVIDIA chipsets. I flashed the latest bios from the ECS website but it's essentially the same thing (Phoenix Bios 6.0).

Is there any other way to overclock?

:welcome: I'm not familiar with ECS boards so I don't know how much help I will be, All of your options for O.C.ing are going to come from your motherboard Bios. With the BE chips simply changing the multiplier is the easiest way to O.C. If you could post some screen shots of your bios options we can probably help you figure out how limited your board is in regard to O.C.ing. Unlocking your chip ( for future reference if you become interested) would require your board to have the ACC feature.
There is software that is windows based for O.C.ing like AMD overdrive, I have never used it so I am not sure if it will help. It may be worth looking into in your case.
 
I believe core unlocking is a feature only found in 790GX/FX boards, or only those with the SB750 chipset, so only those with an ATI chipset can unlock..(you need an option called ACC) it just can't happen on an nVidia based board. Not to mention, yours is a previous generation chip and I'm fairly certain it can't be unlocked anyways. You might be thinking of the 720BE, which is a Phenom II chip and is a tri-core which will usually unlock to a quad.
The one thing we can help you with is pushing that chip higher than the 2.7Ghz it is running at. Could you please create a signature with complete system specs?.. so we have a better idea what you have and how much further you can push your chip.

The Kuma core X2s do not unlock. The ACC feature that unlocks Phenom II based X2s and X3s functions as an advanced timing feature on the Phenom I CPUs, simply allowing you to clock them higher some of the time. So, the CPU won't unlock anyway.

Also, as pointed out already, your Nvidia-chipset board simply doesn't have the ACC feature to begin with...

It would help a lot if we knew exactly which motherboard you have. ECS makes a lot of different boards. ;) A signature with your hardware (CPU, board, RAM, video as a minimum) would be good, or a list, or in this case just the board model number would probably resolve a lot of questions ...
 
Have had extensive experience with the Kuma core and and had some fun tweaking my own 7750 for a while. AFAIK 7750s do not unlock at all. A few of the engineering samples supposedly could but as far as I can tell, ACC only lets you clock higher. Most 7750s were locked so you couldn't enable the extra cores even if you wanted to. AMD was also hush hush about the 720BE but I have yet to any any of those actually "locked" like the 7750.

For what it's worth, quite a few people have gotten the 7750 into the 3.4-3.5-ish range using ACC. Without ACC though, you're pretty much limited to 3.2.

Not to be a jerk or anything but both Nvidia chipsets and ECS motherboards are crap. And it's not subjective it's fact. I've seen more dead ECS boards and Nvidia chipset boards than any other kind(can anyone say 650i?). Most Nvidia based boards are bound to have issues even if they don't outright die. Dead SATA channels and HDD corruption are very common with both the Nvidia 600 series and the 700 series. Overclocking on these boards just makes the problems more likely to occur.

Most ECS motherboards just outright die anyway so that compounds it. Not to mention you don't seem to have any OCing options anyway so tough luck maybe :(

Of course not saying anything is about to die but that's far from an ideal board to do ANY OCing.

Advanced Chipset Features - allows you to change the speed which is set at 200', and the D-RAM speed, but increasing more than than 201 seems to cause an error and it'll tell you to change it back to default. That's about it.

@ aries2110: Eh.. I expect no less. I bought this computer customized off ebay for 300$, it's a good deal as it can run the latest games and stuff, but it's definately not a quad-core latest technology computer like yours is likely. It's a big upgrade from a 1.0GHZ computer like I used to have though.

After seeing your BIOS pic I am not entirely sure if you can indeed OC or not. That is an aftermarket board which tells me it at least has OCing options. The beauty of the Black Edition is its unlocked multiplier. Because of this, even very limited boards are capable of some kind of OC. Basically using the multiplier instead of the FSB means you don't need advanced voltage options or tweaked settings to turn up the speed of the processor.

I would recommend you try turning the CPU Frequency multiplier from stock 13.5x to 15x and turn the CPUVID voltage to 1.4. This is basically guaranteed 3GHz.

If these options aren't available I'm afraid you can't really OC as Black Editions are only useful if you can adjust the multiplier.
 
Over clocked and undervolted.

The pic speaks for itself. Sometimes overvolting too soon can cause unnecessary heat build up. I suggest leaving it at stock or even undervolting the CPU and seeing what you can get as far as an OC.

I have noticed that the cooler (even with air) you keep the CPU the less volts it takes. This cpu is under full (F@H GPU with CPU assist and WCG/Seti-BOINC) load 24-7-365, it is 100% stable and can go higher if I use stock volts.

The voltage to clocks is not a line graph and is in fact a curve.

Here is an example: 1.4V does not guarantee 3 GHz unless you have poor cooling. It takes X current I for Y clocks no matter how you look at it. Heat impedes the flow of said current. I don't want to throw the whole OC community into an uproar but depending on the chip less could be more.
 
Hey this is way late but I just came up on this again. It turns out I'm able to turn up the Clock Frequency if you use the correct Key Combination in the bios(Ctrl + F1). Ctrl + F1 turns on some more advanced features and while its on I was able to clock it up to 3.0 which I'll keep it at for now (also Cool n' Quiet should be disabled). I haven't seen this information anywhere so this might be able to help. Thx

Just overclocked from 2.7 to 3.1GHZ just by raising Cpu Frequency up a bit, temp is still only 30C and I don't have any extra cooling.. but once I find out how to raise the voltage a bit I'll try to get up to 3.3 or 3.5

Sweet! Archer is right that you should be conservative at first. Raise your voltage only one notch at a time. Mine was most stable at 3.2GHz with 1.4v and 2000MHz NB with one notch of voltage on the CPU NB. Good luck pushing past 3.2GHz. Please post results :)
 
I believe core unlocking is a feature only found in 790GX/FX boards, or only those with the SB750 chipset . . .

Not so. The 785G NB/710 SB boards and up (if the bios has the ACC feature and most of them do) will also unlock cores.
