Advice/opinions on my education? lol

Well right now I'm saving for school. I'm going to pay for it because the last time i tried to get FA etc didn't get approved for anything lol don't blame them.

Anyway long story short, career in the operators union bombed hard due to crappy econ, having zero anything (education GED few certs from adult ed. computer repair stuff mainly but that's my hobby not a job) besides that i'm a nobody factory worker lol.

Anyways life is slowly coming back together family problems solved. I been thinking about going back to school for shipping and receiving. I currently do it in a smaller shop running their warehouse and handling all of that. I love doing that job but its a shop going nowhere sadly.

So this is what i was looking at, because well in the world today I feel you have to have a education, i mean ya i got 5 years experience in it now. But without paper seems like your opinions are much more limited and starting pay usually sucks.

http://www.sc4.edu/show.php?title=TR...de=c&year=0910

This is the course at the local college. $2,450 smackers total. I come from a family where pretty much no one even has a ged lol so as for advice on what to do to advance myself and maybe move on to a much much bigger place to work with good pay, I have no one to ask advice of.

Anyway I'm looking for something short and sweet to start curious what people think about this course from the looks of it, and will it benefit me to drop the money on it.

I also figured this would be a good career path i enjoy doing it as a job, and also it's the type of job that will always be well in demand i guess every place does this to some sort of level.

But say I do this make more money I still would even like to continue after that with some management classes hopefully so one day i can be the boss and not breaking my back when im 60 lol (because i don't plan on retiring ever unless forced to family i come from lol no one retires.)

Just worried I might be wasting my time i guess. Also please if you have some advice do not recommend me a 4 year program lol 2 kids, tight budget, etc I don't have the time or the patience to wait say 5 or 6 years to finally make money lol i want to slowly work my way up the chain

Also my work does pay for school, business is picking up but in order to get them to pay for this I think i'd have to sit down and sell them on why it will benefit the company which if i do more research on the classes i'm sure i can sell them on it, then i'll owe them one year after that or pay them back the cash in payments if i leave before my year is up. Because if I have to save for it myself right now currently on my budget with bills it will take exactly one year unless we start scoring a lot of overtime. So I'm thinking of sucking up to them, because we just opened a online store and soon will be sending a good half of are business through that store, so shipping and warehouse area will be changing to suit it might be my chance to jump out their and go HEY PAY FOR THIS COURSE TO BENEFIT THE GROWTH OF THIS AREA lol not like that but you know i'll sugar coat it.

I am in good graces tho i work my A off and keep my mouth shut keep bosses happy.

If your goal is eventually management and you enjoy book keeping which is what you do in shipping and receiving, I would look into maybe a Major in Accounting and a minor in management. Accounting is a very hard course, but it is a desired skill in almost any line of work. Don't focus on only one field, because this limits you and when the economy fails like it just did, a whole lot of jobs went away. Having something a little more general is just a useful and when you couple it with existing job skills, it can be quite powerful.

That course you pointed out is very basic, but it also might help you convince your employer because it is job related. It is also a Community College and the courses you take could be built upon. The English and Math skills would be transfered to whatever you might later want to build on. I hope you have boned up on your math and English skills because you will be required to take a placement test, and may also have to add pre-requisite math and English courses if you do not meet min. qualifications on their entry tests.

I had recently about 6 months ago took a placement test at ITT (which is ten times harder lol) and passed it with flying colors. I know my english looks terrible on here lol that's cause it's the net and i don't care lol.

Yeah that sounds good advice. That's what happen to me early 2000 after 9/11 It just seemed like it all feel apart. Shortly after that i found myself with no job no career anymore. All the skills i learned in the operators union we're now 9 dollar an hour under the table skills working for small construction companies with no insurance.

Was a lesson in many ways money wise etc lol.

Anyway that is what i'm looking to do start smaller get this course down and out of the way so i can have something to show along with my 5 years experience. Then get little better pay and continue from their so just take a class per semester till i reach a higher level.

2400 for a shipping and receiving course? I didnt even know anybody would require a course for THAT. Dont waste the money. If youre going to dish that much out then do it for something thats worth it.

Completion of this certificate is helpful for entry-level positions in the following fields: transportation management, U.S. customs, logistics management, freight operations, and supply chain operations.

incase that helps, might be worthless that's why i'm researching it. But depends on what someone thinks worthless is?

IDK I might go up to the college maybe get a better idea of what to do. I just know one thing computers is not my future thought it might be after my operators union job fell apart. But it's a hobby for me that's it. The cert i got for repair was nice i guess in allowing me to save money lol doing what i like. Sad it took me a few years to figure that out. Better late then never i guess.

So I just started trying to think of things I like to do on a work level but not a hobby level. Shipping and receiving i like maybe some other things I don't aim to do anything because of the money (as in I don't look at something and go oh i can make 100+ a year instead of 55 because right now i make 20 and just a year ago was under 20).

I mean hell i could end up finishing a cert course and end up having to move out of michigan anyways most of my friends can not get even basic jobs here. Most of them have moved or are gearing up to move. http://www.sc4.edu/show.php?title=Ca...year=0910#cert

But maybe someone will see something that might be of interest in the certs. section. I'm kinda just starting to look through all of them try to find something that would be interesting to start with that will be a decent in demand job. My gf is looking to go for the nurse one year program or they offer i think a work force training course (they are only like a month or two long course) for medical assisting.

IDK guess im just blabbing now cause i feel lost and just know that i need to do something with my life but just feel lost in all of the stuff that's around to learn.
