Intel P55 Express Chip

I was looking at the P55 Express "chipset" at the following page:
I noticed that the "chipset" looks like a CPU.

Is the Intel P55 Express usually installed into a socket?

Is the P55 Express chip often soldered onto the motherboard?

Did you look at the diagram in your link of the 55 chip set, it is below the CPU, it's what controls the data from all the peripherals, the 55 chip set is called the south bridge and yes they are all soldered to the board.

You cant see the chip sets in pictures of motherboards because there covered with heat sinks.
