Hello,

I just want to hear your thoughts about 3D at home, i mean 3D tv's and pc monitors.
Some people consider that good, but i think this way, You have 3D monitor and play games at home all day, forget to eat, drink, forget that you are in a real world, you are a hero in a game but a looser in reality.
Its like you live in virtual world, you get the glasses and like a freak look around you all day and play games.

Its ok you go to the cinema and watch a 3D movie, but at home, noo.
I think normal monitors (not 3D) are way better.

What do you think? :blah:

Not impressed yet... Saw it in Best Buy. Got a headache after a few minutes of use.

Everyone will need $150 glasses...

Agreed. A gimmick and totally pointless. Proabably be at least 5 years before there's any real selection of 3D movies - and probably all will either be SCI-FI or porn.

If games starting becoming 3D, now that's a different story.

even then they gotta get it down right.... the active shutter glasses give me a headache within 1minute of use... and MANY other people report the same....

I loved my 3D setup. If only I hadn't knocked over the damn monitor... Once true 120hz LCD TVs become mainstream/cheap I'll be jumping back in with both feet.

Glasses which used to cost years ago (a decade now?) $40-50 tops.... :sly:

And considering its still just a LCD, I just can't see how they can mark up the price so high on something that probably cost them less then $5 a pair to make.

its the fact they are active shutter glasses that have to be syncd to the display that make them cost alot.

Its a simple LCD pane that serves two different functions via a electrical current; On and Off.

When an electrical current is sent through the pane, the liquid crystals align themselves with the polarized glass and allow (or disallow) light to filter through, which is the On state. When there is no electrical signal present, it will be in the Off state.

Nothing really complicated that would warrant such a huge markup, other then its the next big fad being pushed onto consumers so "lets milk'em for every penny we can".

Seriously though, the only "expensive" part of the package is the IR transmitter pod which houses the USB interface that allows the syncing and control of the depth to occur via software calls to the drivers (and its not that expensive either). Lets not forget the 3DTVs which already have that portion built in and all your paying for is the glasses, battery and charger, yet still charge more then $120 for each pair.

"Buy a pair for each family member now and all can enjoy Avatar in beautiful eye popping 3D at the same time!" ;)

But I digress, this is probably more me ranting over having spent more then what Nvidias current offering cost over the years, only to have it thrown aside and no longer supported in drivers as it previously had (without having to use other means to get them to work, which isn't as good as the built in drivers).

What also sucks its that these $150 glasses are also battery powered too...

So if your button cells (CR2032) are dead, you're SOL!

ya your right... i looked into what actually makes em tick... and the actual glasses arnt that complicated... gotta love the price of a new fad.

Yup, all you're paying for is the R&D that they stole from another company and the Marketting .. or to pay for Mr. Sulu to appear in your rubbish TV ads .. Go on George .. tell us again how good your yellow is !
