does he radeon 4770 support all the features of 3ds max 2009?? and is HD 4770 512MB better or 9800gt 512MB better for 3ds max 2009?

Any gaming GPU is fine for 3D Max. Course the faster it is the better for view port viewing though its not officially supported for 3D Max. I've used both professional and gaming cards with 3D Max and for the price difference I have yet to see why people buy a $1500+ professional card (companies) that obviously work just fine with a $300 gaming card!

system requirements for 2011, so your card should be able to cover it, since 2009 is older.

64-Bit 3ds Max 2011 or 3ds Max Design 2011 for Windows

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64, Microsoft Windows Vista Business x64 (SP2 or higher), or Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 (SP2 or higher)

For general animation and rendering (typically fewer than 1,000 objects or 100,000 polygons):
  • Intel 64 or AMD 64 processor with SSE2 technology*
  • 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
  • 4 GB swap space (8 GB recommended)**
  • 3 GB free hard drive space
  • Direct3D 10, Direct3D 9, or OpenGL-capable graphics card† (256 MB or higher video card memory, 1 GB recommended)
  • Three-button mouse with mouse driver software
  • DVD-ROM drive††
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher or Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher browser
  • Internet connection for web downloads and Autodesk Subscription-aware access
For large scenes and complex data sets (typically more than 1,000 objects or 100,000 polygons):
  • Intel® 64 or AMD64 processor with SSE2 technology*
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 8 GB swap space**
  • 3 GB free hard drive space
  • Direct3D 10, Direct3D 9, or OpenGL-capable graphics card† (1 GB or higher video card memory)
  • Three-button mouse with mouse driver software
  • DVD-ROM drive††
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher or Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher browser)
  • Internet connection for web downloads and Autodesk Subscription-aware access

2-3mil polys with a 512Meg card is possible as well. With thousands of objects. It just depends on how fast you want your view port ;) Though anything over 10FPS seems to be wondeful on complex scenes.

so by your answers all you guys agree that i should go for the radeon 4770over the nvidia9800gt...??

The radeon 4770 has the option to make it into a firegl card if you want, the 9800GT does not. But the 9800GT is more powerful than the 4770 so it might be more useful.

4770 if you search around on the web long enough you should be able to download a driver update that is specially done to force your card to act as a FireGL card and might get the extra perks from 3DMax if there is something with it that requires a professional card. ATI cards are nice with that, its software driven, nVidia cards are hardware driven which now isn't possible to modify them to make a professional card out of.

Also which is cheaper? Price can have a play in this matter.

what about the nvidia 250gts 512MB and radeon HD 4770??..HD 4770 is still superior to 250gts specs wise.

The GTS250 is as fast as a HD4850 give or take a few %, the HD4770 is a slower card. ATI's SP's cannot be directly compared to Nvidia's.
